Re: Build Your Food Storage On Only $5 a Week

This list is a decent start to get someone into thinking just how much stuff is needed for a specific time period, but this list has been posted a dozen or so times here over the years and lately. If you look at the prices at the grocery stores TODAY October 2010, you cannot do it any longer on just...

Re: ZS KS Campout, 56k beware

How did those one man tents work out? I've thought about something like that for the motorcycle, G/F bought me a REI Half Dome because it's just a pound more and 2 person... hate the fly color on the REI tent tho.

Re: Adventures in cooking - what did you learn recently?

Sifting flour before using it in pancakes, biscuits, bread, pasta and sauces gives a far better texture and taste. Yeah, I just realized it after the g/f told me after I couldn't figure out why my breads sucked. OH...and to NEVER USE canning salt in the same amounts as one would iodized or sea salt.

Me? Get myself and G/F down onto the floor behind something solid or head to the basement and wait it out then defend MY home in case someone wants to use it as shelter. Law enforcement gets paid to respond to things like this, the likely hood of you being mistaken for a bad guy is very high. NOW, i...

Re: What's your family oriented prep project this week(end)?

Replacing front brakes and rotors on the jeep along with one of the sway bar rods that sheered off while driving through Chicago last weekend, rotate the tires, oil change then do some PM work on the G/F's car. I had some time so I have done one side of the jeep tonight, finish it up tomorrow. Plus ...

Re: Emergency heating for suburban house

In a pinch, bring the animals in. Its amazing how much body heat a horse or cow gives off. 8) ahh... ahh... I guess stocking up on tarps and air freshener would be a good idea also if one would go that route? There are a lot of decorative fire place inserts that don't look like crap once pr...

Re: Emergency heating for suburban house

Ok, gotcha. Propane indoors rung the no-no bell in my head. I'll read the linked threads and come up with more questions. Yossarian, Mr.Heater runs on kerosene, right? nope, Mr. heater runs on propane but both versions have a very "safe" low oxygen sensor that is pretty effective according to many ...

It's a nice setup, basic and covers everything pretty well. I was also wondering how many pounds that it comes to. I'm starting to get more into the hammock camping and now have one in my BOB, it is truely awesome to wake up off the ground, rested while everyone else is complaining how horrible they...

Re: Here we go Again! The Colony!

I'll have to disagree a bit about Becka - from what I saw, sure she made mistakes, EVERY SINGLE person on that show was a screw up except for Tick at the end - but she was always the first one to volunteer to DO WORK and some of the nasty work too. She wasn't taking naps, she wasn't trying to find t...

I had luck with Numrich before in parts - if you don't have one GET TWO firing pins ASAP! And never ever dry fire it. Might want to try this place, http://www.gun-parts.com/star/ or even http://e-sarcoinc.com/starbm.aspx Check youtube or internet for what you can do about that magazine disconnect, m...

Re: First CERT drill on Saturday

Get a LED headlamp (el cheapo from Walmart works fine) and use the hand held flashlight as a backup. It will keep your hands free to do other things instead of always setting down your flashlight if in a darkened room. The only downside to LED flashlights/headlamps is if it's very smokey/dusty you c...

Check out Mom's journal of Zombie year menus or whatever it's called - she had a metric crap-ton of recipes for using home food storage items. The biggest thing when preparing these items is alternative sources of cooking - using outdoor grills, rocket stoves, campfires, dakota holes, etc. It's not ...

Dual sport tires on regular street bike?

Just curious as to your thoughts about putting dual sport tires on a 84 LTD 305 Kawasaki. I saw a guy with a older Honda (around my LTD's age range) the other day and he said they run fine but as he said.. "your millage may vary" - My bike is just too squirrley on dirt roads with it's stock tires an...

Check out the Honda EN2500 series or even the Champion 3000W genny that can be found at Cabela's, Tractor Supply and a few RV dealers. I've found several Honda's, Onan's, Craftsman's on Craigslist for pretty decent prices. The Champion series generators are well known among RV/travel trailer campers...

Mutual network, Mutual assistance group, same difference. Generally a group of like minded people/family members who ban together in case of TSHTF. Just a heads up if you don't know about it especially if you're not from Ohio. Drive VERY cautiously and don't speed. In Ohio you're not to travel with loaded rifle magazines - yeah, stupid law but it's a law. If stopped and found, you can be charged with carrying a loaded weapon. , even if you have...

At least you have something to grab/use if you need to bugout or emergency supplies for bugging in and I commend you for it unlike most of households. Those don't last a couple of days up where I live, soon as I saw this I gave the most local one a call and they said, "sold out". Jackasses buy them up all up and turn around selling them for $100 - 125 at local gunshow touting the "no paperwork needed" on their tables.

Just pisses me off.

Those are good prices, didn't even know they carried those. Apparently they're comparable to the Mountain House Pro-Pak sizes from what I've read. I have a few old school Lrp rations that are seriously out of date, hopefully these will taste better.
