Re: Active shooter, Baton Rouge, targeting police

Reports on WAFB (link below) that the incident started with "citizens shooting at one another" and then the police becoming a target when they turned up. Doesn't sound like a deliberate attack on the PD. Not sure that makes it better ... WAFB livestream (link edited): http://livestream.com/WAFB/live...

Re: Best Jerry cans---and where to buy

I'm going to agree with everyone else. Steel UN-marked NATO cans or (if you can't get those) plastic MFCs, or your local equivalent. Do not be fooled by cheap Jerry Cans. You are not getting quality when you go cheap on these. The only time I got caught out by that the seller was using UN-marked NAT...

Agreed. I was going to suggest the FT-897D since it covers pretty much all your needs but you're not likely to find one for $400.

Re: Military coup d'etat in Turkey

Here's some fascinating footage from the CNN Turkey offices showing the police and unarmed civilians (journalists?) overpowering the soldiers who had taken control. https://twitter.com/ismailsaymaz/status/754142882282569736 It's notable that despite all the rifles present no-one makes any move to us...

Looks as though it's pretty much over. The remainder of the military, plus all the civil players, have decided they don't want a coup after all. All the major Turkish political parties - even the Kurdish HDP that the government was trying to suppress - have come out against the coup.

For what that's worth.

Video footage of fast movers in the air over Ankara, unconfirmed reports that the Turkish air force is bombing the presidential palace.

I honestly can't tell at this time whether the crowds of young men seen int he streets on Rudaw's livestream with Turkish flags are for or against the coup.

Re: Military coup d'etat in Turkey

International flights (definitely BA and Lufthansa, possibly others) into Turkey are being diverted. President Erdogan has called for the public to go out on the streets and protest, and there are reports on Twitter of that happening in some places. The coup doesn't appear to be involving all of the...

I don't know the area, the boat or the crew. I have sailed a 27-foot boat with my sister and parents from England to Spain across 500 miles of open water, before GPS became ubiquitous, and through seas somewhat larger than 6' without any significant concern (except that one time when the engine fuel...

More than half of those retired on a private pension voted to leave, as did two thirds of those retired on a state pension. I am gonna say that given everything in Greece that is a telling statistic. Or it's a reflection of the age profile of the result. Older people were more likely to vote to Lea...

Yes we have a moderate stock of potable water and we're constantly adding to that. OK, it's a new day and I'm slightly less despondent at the result. I would note the following facts: 1. The UK was and remains a sovereign nation. No change. 2. The UK remains a member of NATO and has not switched sides. No change. 3. The UK never used the euro and retained its own currency. No chan...

I've only watched one video but she seems to be having a good time.

I can't help but think that if it was the UK it would be raining horizontally all the time, and half-way through the video she'd decide to go to the pub instead :)
