A very quick update while I'm cooking dinnner:
UK:
5683 confirmed cases (+665)
281 deaths (+48)
At face value that's a slowing of the rate of increase from yesterday, but I really wouldn't hang any hopes on that. We've had outliers in the past and I suspect this is another.

Re: Stocks, Retirement funds -- Post Economic Crash
I've got at least ten years to go before I'm going to start spending my retirement funds. I'm sticking with it. The cash value of the fund is down about 15% (it's not all stock market) so this month's contribution will buy a larger number of units than last month's did.. I'm hoping that by 2030 we'l...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"
Here in the UK it's been a slow Sunday. It's Mother's Day, which would usually involve a walk in the countryside and lunch out somewhere. The weather's great so the walk happened but lunch was off. I'll be cooking at home for dinner instead. Mrs Sheddi and I spoke with both our mothers; they're in g...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"
Hampshire has 138 confirmed (which effectively means hospitalised) cases, that's roughly 10 cases per 100k poulation. For comparison, central London has closer to 50 cases per 100k population. Tomorrow morning I'm hoping to venture out to Lidl. Went to Lidl, arrived before 9am. Plenty of produce on ...

Re: COVID-19 Thread
The UK as a whole has 3983 cases, a daily increase of 714 ( source, live site, will change daily ). We have 177 deaths and 79 recovered. Interestingly, London has ~10% of the UK population but ~40% of cases (1588). It seems the pandemic is more advanced in London than the rest of the UK. One London ...

Re: Will Prepping Get a Second Wind in 2020?
Not sure if this counts as a second wind for prepping, but here in the UK it's noticeable just how many times individuals, organisations and even our government have said that the preps they made for Brexit-related supply chain disruption are proving invaluable for COVID-19. That turned out to be a...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"
The situation around me hasn't changed much since yesterday (although I've not really gone very far to investigate). My children have now finished school, most probably until the new school year starts in September. My eldest's exams have been cancelled and he will be assigned grades based on his sc...

Not sure if it's a bug-in tip or not, but I've got a little (1/2 oz, or so) pocket-sized spray bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Or I did, until it ran out today. So I've refilled it with the denatured alcohol I use in my Traangia alcohol stove. It doesnt't smell of lime much anymore, and I m...

Some great replies in this thread.
My family (wife and two teenagers) watch the news and keep up to date with developments but thay have never asked "do we have enough food?"
My wife did ask if I have any extra TP stashed anywhere (that's in addition to the stuff she knows about) ...

77 cases in Hampshire now but no eaasy way to identify how many deaths. The slightly worrying numbers from the gov.uk website here is that we're 103 deaths but only 65 recovered; I guess it's because death taakes less time to confirm! Further to Wee Drop's latest updates, English schools close on Fr...

Today the UK Government finally got their act together and gave a proper press briefing rather than leaking snippets to their favoured journalists. Hampshire, central Southern England. (If you look at a map of the UK, in the middle of the south coast there's a large island [the Isle of Wight]. Hampshire is immediately inland of it, but excludes the two large port cities Southampton and Portsmouth.) Per this link Hampshire has 55 of the UK's 154...

Your storms are making the news here in the UK, which makes a change from the politics
It's being reported that they have hit southern California hardest. That's the bit that was still in drought, IIRC, so hopefully once the immediate effects have passed it will help a bit with that?
