Re: The All Purpose AK Thread

I'm with you on that one, JF89. Prices on AKs went nuts a couple years back (I think it was because of the whole Russia/Ukraine conflict) and they haven't come back down to a sane level. Don't get me wrong, I've got no problem paying for quality AKs, but I'm not paying 900 bucks plus for an AK buil...

Re: The All Purpose AK Thread

Anybody else thinking about getting an Alpha AK when they comeout? Sounds like they are going to be about $1400-1800 msrp. Ive seen Kalashnikov USA and CAA talk about them. Is there connection between these two companies or are they both just getting into the custom AK market? https://www.thefirear...

Re: Glock 19 : How and Why the US Special Forces Adopted It (article from Defense review)

I didn't carry one on any of my tours. It was always the M9. When I was a baby soldier I was too young to get one. When I was older they made us all deploy with M9s. The M9 was always reliable even when dirty and mucked up. My personal 1911 tends to run just fine until the spring starts to wear out...

There is a chick around my area that has a custom engraved AR with a cartoony looking penis as the rollmark. I face palmed when she showed me it.

Re: What are YOU currently lusting after? (firearms related)

I am "lusting" for a PSA AK that takes AR mags. They are supposedly only going to be $600-$800, I am still a little skeptical of 5.56 AKs after my Arsenal 106 experience but that was only one sample.

Welcome! And things are less "dead" and more "focused" in my book. A ton has been said in the past, but we are always talking about what is going on now. I don't do "social media" either. I stay pretty active here. The quality and the discussion material are far more interesting. We get people from...

Re: Glock 19 : How and Why the US Special Forces Adopted It (article from Defense review)

Ive concealed carried both. the Glock is a lot lighter and theres no hammer to dig into you when sitting or bending, ymmv.
Outside of weight , the Commander sized 1911s are about equal for carrying , imo. Im 6' 220 lbs though, maybe build has more to do with it.

Re: Glock 19 : How and Why the US Special Forces Adopted It (article from Defense review)

I'm going to call a little BS. I was stationed at Ft. Bragg when the Glock first started hitting the streets in the US (Yes, I am that fucking old). Everyone wanted one, Special Operators included. A large percentage of Army war fighter types are of course gun nuts. By 1993 everyone in the Faytteen...

I thought it was a pretty cool article and remembered I had read a similar subject on defense review about why the Army (and a little on other branches SF) switched to Glock 19s. The author also goes over Sigs snd 1911s a little bit and his opinion on them for SF use. http://www.defensereview.com/g...

Re: Worst SHTF Handgun

Nah, those are at least good for brandishing and making a lot of noise with. My vote would be a NAA .22LR, which more than a few people carry "just in case". Just in case, what? Just in case you have to put a chipmunk out of its misery? I have been attacked by a squirrel, I couldve wounded him with...

Re: Worst SHTF Handgun

I think big magnum revolvers like the .44 on up ,would be the "worst", assuming we are talking about the PAW.

I would take a hi point in 9mm over a big magnum revolver ,even. Too much recoile and too low of capacity, imo.

Re: Worst SHTF Handgun

I say a 1911. Low mag capacity, mine was super picky with ammo (as well as a few buddy's), not very concealable for a low capacity gun, not easy to field strip, parts need fitting sometimes if replacements ever happen. Good for range or collecting, bad for using. But that's just me, what about you?...

Heres an article from a former SF guy on why the 1911 is his favorite sidearm and why he chose/chooses it for serious use.

Re: Best cheap 9mm for PAW trade? Star BM 9mm for $200?

About $90 over your budget but the Walther Creed looks pretty nice. Its essentially a ppq that has been dumbed down a bit with a crappier trigger and a few small cosmetic changes.

Re: Consolidating my 9mm collection to one platform

Also , I would be skeptical of the p320s. I am not going to dog on Sig but their QC has slipped in recent years, you probably would get a good one but the chance of getting a lemon is higher with them due to poor or substandard QC practices. I have owned a half dozen p320s and 2 p226s in the past an...

Re: Consolidating my 9mm collection to one platform

Ive recently switched back to 9mm die to ammo costs and I figure trigger time trumps having a bigger bullet. My choices would be Glock 19 , CZ p07/p10/75 and the HK vp9/p30. The Walther has the best trigger, by far but I am skeptical how good of an idea a trigger that light is on a gun meant for ser...
