Re: Hatchet vs. Machete--either, neither, or both?

If you are driving and camping mostly, I'd recommend both. What matters most for hacking and chopping is the edge, (think like a chef) so not the cold steel.

Rhetorical, internet debate. You'll want some more of what you fired yesterday, if it served its purpose.

Re: making your mix bean blends

Harvest to Table says: Ratio: The basic ratio for dried bean soups is 2 part dried beans (or any dried vegetable) to 3 to 4 parts liquid. For example, 2 cups of dried beans (about 1 pound) added to 4 cups cold water or white stock.

I think this is good. Remember to look 'em and soak 'em.

LOL. Got a steel and a magnesium for less than half of what you read, if you did. Weird.

Ok.. gotta ask about your club. You'd probably approach Gandalf and say, "Dude, is that an axe handle or something?" lol. Actually, it was a fathers day gift; I am still breaking it in. Re: Are all magnesium bar - fire starters created equal?

I've bought many cheaper brands over the years and like to have an extra or two if I am with a group so that I can give them away and help others have the ability to make fire when needed. I find that it is often the technique, or the scratch I have gathered to catch sparks more than it is the fires...

Re: Three season tent recommendations?

It was ridiculously tight. Think pyramid. 4 on the ground and then 3 followed onto the gaps. As I am a large, I was on the bottom and incredibly warm. The only issue was one fellow was incredibly gassy. I've stayed in touch with 2 of them; we still laugh about it. Did a similar pyramid with over 60 ...

Re: Three season tent recommendations?

I've owned one of these (4-man) since 1984. https://eurekacamping.johnsonoutdoors.com/tents/backpacking/timberline%C2%AE-4-person-tent Mine is still going strong; we've used it three times this year. In 1988, it slept 7 men during an all night downpour. Only drawback is that it costs 2.5x more now. ...

Re: Take Shelter (2011)

I liked it. Everything said thus far is true. A man is chastised by his family, friends, neighborhood, work, etc., etc., because he wants to build a bunker, protect his loved ones, etc., etc. He doesn't have the money to do it but he keeps trying anyway. It's a slow roller but demonstrates how someo...

Re: Downloadable gun manufacturing files.

Not off-base MOAB. By lobbying I refer to influencing lawmakers/decision makers. 'Influencing the public' is an entirely different thing and often involves whimsy. Wanted to add that there are simple ways to "protest" as well that does not involve marches, bullhorns or bumper stickers. For example, ...

Re: Downloadable gun manufacturing files.

My opinion aligns with KJ4VOV. Agree too that lobby efforts are sorely needed when/where there is pressure but "educating the public" today largely means competing with those that have their own self interest in mind, meaning Online: followers and likes and such. Don't believe some guy on the intern...

Re: A quick question about MRE

One of the things I found to be much better than the MRE is fresh chicken salad on a whole wheat pita, a pinch of black pepper and a dash of an exotic mustard. Expiration dates mean nothing to the hungry. Check the food first by sight and smell. If all is well, give it a little taste. Eat a mouthfu...

I've used only Surefire batteries from the Surefire rep and since I run mostly Surefire lights this seems best.
