I often wonder what goes on in there but I'm not really sure I want to know.

Re: Question from a new gun owner

I was a little curious about this too, but I figured if ammo is fine overseas in the middle of a desert, it would be fine in a car. No such thing as a stupid question General safety note: the interior of a vehicle on a hot day can reach 140F/60C in an hour, hotter than the highest recorded natural ...

They can use the gen2 pmags just fine. The overinsertion tab on gen3s is what gets in the way.

Re: Re-establishing ammunition production

OK..I'm not going to ask you try to make some ammo from scratch now, I'm not even going to ask you to try to make gun powder from scratch . Primitive Gun powder as everyone knows is made from Charcoal, Sulfur and salt peter....Lets see you produce some Sulfur today from scratch, not buy it on line ...

Re: Firearms Chat Part 2: Bullpups cause all the rage!

So I hit a local store today (informally known as the "mennonite mall", as it is a "plain folk" oriented department store) during their anniversary sale and found DRT .45 and 9 for $13 and $10/20. Picked up a box of each (and due to the anniversary sale got a free diary and ice cream cone) So now I...

Re: Hurricane Iselle en route to Hawaii

For canned meats, I have 11 cans of spam ... Only 11 cans of Spam? Dude, you're gonna starve! But seriously, stay safe, good luck, try to keep us updated. Almost impossible to starve with 11 cans of spam on the shelf: you'll eat anything before resorting to opening one of them. Spam is ...

Re: But Seriously, What *Would* A Raider Do?

I think he is pointing out how our view of Raiders is tainted by Hollywood, thinking they are assless chaps biker types just in it for the chaos and power. When the reality is they will much likely be much more normal people put into difficult circumstances. So it is much less likely you will have ...

Re: But Seriously, What *Would* A Raider Do?

Not every contact with a 'raider' need necessarily be immediately violent. A threat of confrontation along with a display of force may allow a raider to gain at little to no cost. A person walks openly up the path to your front door, their hands are empty and open and they are minimally armed (a ho...

Re: Ebola in West Africa

I'm sticking with using total cases (those that lab-confirm and those that meet case definition without available confirmation) for the following numbers Total mortality (death) rate - 932/1711 = 54.4% Guinea - 363/495 = 73.3% Liberia - 282/516 = 54.7% Sierra Leone - 268/691 = 38.8% Nigeria - 1/9 =...

Re: Re-establishing ammunition production

This is a pretty complicated subject, but I can summarize my thoughts and opinions on it fairly easily.

Once you know something can be done, you're already halfway there.

Re: Ebola in West Africa

Since this strain of Ebola is 90% fatal what about the 10% that survives it? One would think there might be antibodies that could be isolated, harvested, and duplicated. Last I read the current fatality rate is about 55%, not 90%. Perhaps the 90% fatality rate is what you get if you go to the witch...

Re: "Self Defense Tip: Don’t Use a Rifle"

Personally, I don't believe the hype about "racking the shotgun"=bad guy running away. Of course I disagree with the notion that racking a slide is a deterrent. I have to disagree with people about this! I find racking a shell to be an excellent deterrent. It works like this in the baddie's head: 1...
