Re: my bob

I second Woodlandghost. Would you like opinions and/or suggestions about your gear, or is this a show and tell moment? Curious about what you have inside containers which cannot be seen. I spy with my little eye: * 5 fixed blade knives * a grey ... thing (maybe a sharpening stone cannot really tell)...

Re: Motorcycles

From the research I have done it seems like a dual purpose bike is a jack of all trades and a master of none, to an extreme extent. I took the CMSP course about 10 years ago with a friend. They got a dirt bike and I got a street bike. Dirt bikes are cheap and easy to buy! But, I didn't also want to ...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

Just asking what his background was all. To be clear, I'm not insulting anyone, or anyone's favorite weapons. And, the only topic at hand is the potential for the shotgun to be overrated for use against zombies . Keeping that in mind, I have no idea why you're curious about my personal background w...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

I can make a head shot at a stationary target at 25yrds with a pistol . . . but with no stress, and taking my time for a well aimed, controlled breathing, careful squeeze shot. I have a lot more confidence with my shotgun for a shot like that. -FNH SLP, red dot topped, sling. Are you talking about ...

Re: Sig P226 Overview

I've got thousands of rounds through my P226 and I love the thing! The closest thing I've had to a malfunction is user error. I started using the P226 for home defense recently and I store it without a round in the chamber I find that it requires more force to drive a fully loaded mag home with a cl...

Re: Portable Solar Setup (Discussion)

I personally use a Goal Zero Nomad 7 and the Guide 10 Plus battery pack. Work makes me travel a lot so I keep the solar setup in my suitcase. I have an XTAR MC1 single bay li-ion charger which uses a standard to micro USB port to charge. I'll be getting an XTAR XP1 single bay charger which can char...

Re: Basement prepping

My biggest shortfall is power. I am looking into getting a 300-500 watt solar set up with 2-3 batteries. In addition a small generator with a supply of fuel. Generator would be used sparingly. The solar would be primary. Also I want to set up some low voltage LED lighting. Probably rope lights or s...

Re: Canteen Kit vs Modern kits

This is a recent video from the youtube series UltimateSurvivalTips that tackled this subject. http://youtu.be/JD-JY7ZuYQI Basically, he promotes the idea of using a 40oz Kleen Kanteen and a GSI nesting cup. He likes to place these into a molee container (condor or maxpedition make variants) and use...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

There are a number of pistol-caliber carbines on the market. They all have various pro's and con's. I like the idea, but it's hard to find one that offers the right blend of trade-offs. I have a CZ .40 pistol that can share magazines and ammo with a Kel-Tec Sub2000 and in fact I keep this pair in m...

[quote="Murph"] http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d132/ComSciDude/Survival/BackpackGear20140729_zps43dd9ef6.jpg It's a little hard to make some of this out, and the gear you've broken out doesn't seem to be everything you carry. With limited info I may only be able to provide some pretty basic info....

Re: Portable Solar Setup (Discussion)

I did a bunch of research on this topic a couple of years ago. I purchased a couple of different devices for emergency usage and for EDC. Afterwords when I tried to put these devices into usage I found some issues. Here is what I learned: You want to decide on your intended usage first! That's very ...

Re: Quick poll: Best Home Defense Firearm Choice

My primary home defense firearm is the pistol I train with the most. A Sig P226 with night sights and a TLR-1s light, loaded with quality hollow points. My goals are to minimize over penetration and to maintain an effective way to provide light so I can see my target, what is in front of it, and wha...

Re: Best firerod for the money?

I'm not 100% sure on what you mean by fire rod. I'm assuming you're talking about a ferro rod. A ferro rod is a rod of ferrocerium which is known for throwing very high temperature sparks. If this is the case, then I'm thinking you're talking about a magnesium block with a small ferro rod glued to t...

When I read the first post I had a bunch of ideas in mind to reply with! As I continued reading it seemed like Cauldron, Dead_Like_Disco, and the_alias, and Murph covered a lot of it. So, great job to each of you! There are a couple of very diverging worlds of packing a bag to leave civilization for...

Re: Always Aim for the Head, Right?

This is an interesting question and some fantastic ideas have been brought up! Real people in the real world have exhibited individual symptoms that zombies are known for. This information can give us a reasonable view of what a zombie's brain would actually look like. Several portions would be shri...

Re: Zombie Body Armor

Puncture resistant clothing isn't terribly difficult to come by. There are lots of materials out there that human nails/teeth won’t penetrate. But, you have to think about the 120 pounds of bite pressure the average human is capable of and the chances for this causing bone breaks. So, while it’s sim...

Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

The shotgun is, without a doubt, the most overrated weapon to use against zombies. Why? Well, to be overrated a weapon has to be highly sought after, and it has to be less good than the demand would warrant. The shotgun is one of the first weapons that come to mind for most people when they think ab...
