Re: Canvas vs Synthetic Tent: Canvas Best For The PAW?
Tent living would be a temporary solution. I couldn't see living in one long term.

Re: Bug Out Gear Deals (Post 'em when you find 'em) I
Amazon.com has the older generation Surefire EB1 for $80 right now as everyone is clearing out for the new version. I have the original E1B that is still going strong, and this version gives you 200 lumens on high, and a secondary mode of 5 lumens. Pretty sure it's only on its second battery in like...

Re: heaviest blade YOU would carry on the trail/backpacking
I'm definitely out of my "big knife" phase and am well into the "lighter is better" one. My every day knife is a Spyderco Paramilitary II, which also gets taken on hikes or camping. It's so light that it just gets taken everywhere. It's a little under 4 oz, has a fantastic blade and steel, and has s...

Re: Smartphone instead of a flashlight for EDC
I don't use a flashlight app just for the fact that they all seemed kind of sketchy the last time I looked. They required a ton of permissions, and I've heard of some just being backdoors to get access to your phone, so I've avoided them. Maybe things have changed. I always carry a little flashlight...

Re: First Pistol Purchase
Previously I was having more success with the larger framed pistols like the Taurus over the Glock (if you check the more general thread I have going here for details on that: http://www.zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=109182 )... So now I'm a little confused which direction I should ...

Re: Eagle Industries A III Large Assault Pack Review.
Wonderful pack, and a nice review. I'm confused as to why this bag seems to be vanishing. I've owned one for several years and taken on many varied types of outings. Through all of the abuse it basically looks brand new. The only real con I have against it is the lack of any internal organization. W...

Re: Tent or Hammock in your BOB?
I have an ENO Doublenest and it was so worth it after a long, hard hike in the heat last summer. It has a place in my preps even with my tent, because it is such a morale booster. After your feet and muscles are sore from hiking all day, a Jacuzzi is about the only better thing I could think of than...

Re: Re-thinking (lightweight) shelter?
Rain gear is a good short term option, but if you're having to wait out weather for hours or days, a tarp to stand under would be very nice. Mine all rolled up is slightly smaller than a can of pringles, and fits easily in a pack. IMO, shelter beats rain gear. If there's a deluge, you're most likely...

I think your actions, and just this type of friendly, low-key response to these situations are the best ways to get average people interested in being a little more prepared.

Sweet spot? The weight of my Glock 19, a few extra mags, and maybe a baggie with some loose rounds. Like others have said, this setup will cover most of my BO needs.Waywatcher wrote: What weight of guns & ammo do you consider the sweet spot for Bugging-Out?

Re: Paratipi review. 56k warning.
I'm currently looking at purchasing a kifaru shelter for Christmas, this review helps a lot. For now it's split between the paratipi, sawtooth, and the four man tipi. I'm a Paratipi owner, and while I love mine, I do wish the stove was placed more toward the forward compartment. I think the Sawtoot...

Re: I'd appreciate advice on what gun to buy next.
If I was you, I'd ask myself: -What will a .45 do that your 9mm Glock 17 won't? -What will a Lee Enfield do that your SKS won't? -What will an AR15 do that your SKS won't? I think the AR15 is probably the best out of those choices, and fulfills your requirements. But keep in mind that you're not jus...

Re: Multiple handgun vs. handgun/rifle for bug-out or SHTF
I could see something like a G19 and a G26 as a BUG. Same caliber, same mags. I wouldn't bother with different calibers and different makes, but that's me. I want simplicity and consistency. Also, why would you be carrying a rifle and a shotgun in addition to a handgun? That's a heavy loadout. Shotg...

Picked up 2 boxes of Federal Match .22 bulk pack yesterday. First time I've seen those in at least a year.
Last week I managed to get 300 rounds of .22, and 2 100rd boxes of Winchester 9mm. I foresee a range trip soon.

Re: Worst knife you ever owned?
Some Gerber folder with a tanto blade (never again...). It didn't keep an edge for long, and I never could get it decently sharp again. The steel was awful. Honorable mention to the CRKT M16 (with plastic handle). Sticky opening that never seems to smooth out, and the blade was the most out-of-cente...

I've only sold one gun, and I don't have any regrets about it. There's no plans to sell any more, but I know I could never sell the Remington 1100 and Browning BL-22 that belonged to my Grandfather. They were the first guns I shot and I have some great memories attached to them. The dream is to pass...

At $400, you'll get a lot more gun if you go for a used .357 than scraping the bottom barrel of .45s, IMO.

Vedauwoo is a pretty great place to camp. I've stayed there, and even recommended it to a friend who made the trip out there just to camp there and he loved it. It's about halfway between Cheyenne and Laramie on I-80. Should take about 2 hours or so from Denver, depending on I-25 traffic. The rock f...

Re: Are you good with what you have ?
Having gone to one income as well, I understand the feeling. Fortunately, I really have more firearms, magazines, and ammunition than I really need. Ammo is in the thousands for 5.56, 9mm, .22, with close to a thousand for .30-06 (Garand) and .45. I recently just upgraded my 10/22, so I really feel ...
