Re: What was your first pistol?

My first pistol was an Iver Johnson PX22(?); it looked like a shrunken PPK. Put a bunch of rounds through it, mostly one at a time - it hated anything but Stingers. Then the slide cracked and there was no warrantee, so it went into the nearest river in pieces. My next pistol was a S&W Model 39-2. A...

Re: BUDGET Zombie Firearms

There is no reason to spend much money to get good serviceable guns other then you just want to or are to lazy to get out and look for deals. One of my favorite shotguns is my Remington model 11 auto, picked it up at a flea market for $125 talked down from $150 because it had a poly choke. I cut the...

if I could only have one .22? ,,That's pretty easy A Ruger 10/22. I've had mine for around 30 years, shot it a bunch and then some, never had a part break or have any trouble out of it. trigger isn't the best and I have been thinking about doing something about it for about 10 years but haven't got ...

Re: Is the Tomahawk a Useful PAW Implement?

For about 15 years I made a living making tomahawks and small axes, all forge welded in an old coal forge. Made hundreds. A tomahawk is small axe or hatchet that doesn't have a poll, usually the iron they were made out of was just wrapped around a mandrill to form the eye and then the blade was weld...

Re: How Effective is the Machete as a Weapon?

i guess I sort of collect machetes, have a couple dozen probably, also own quite a few swords First most [ but not all] swords were designed to be used against others armed with swords, I think the chances that you will get into a fight with another person armed with a sword is about zero A good mac...

Re: Review of the BFR 45-70.

I wonder how much velocity you loose in a pistol barrel and if other cartridges would be more effective, looks like a real pain to carry and use. I have an original 1873 trapdoor carbine 45-70 that I reload the shells for using blackpowder, fun gun to shoot. They made a single shot trapdoor 45 70 pi...

I have an SKS "paratrooper" and have had more then a few in the past. I have 5 various Enfields including a pretty nice original jungle carbine. Picked up a savage enfield while back that I cut the barrel back on thinking about making a scout rifle out of. Wouldn't make much difference to me which o...

Re: What was your first pistol?

When I was in 7th grade I got a Ruger .22 Auto Pistol for my birthday. Didn't make much sense but I really wanted one and my dad got it for me, already had a single shot .22 rifle. Couldn't hit much with it,and I traded it in for a Savage 22/20 over under for hunting. got a better .22 Rifle and a ni...

Re: Black bear suspected of killing hiker in NJ

I know people from this part of NJ and Bears are a problem there, getting in trash cans, Bird Feeders etc. Very common to see them in yards in daylight etc. They have become used to people and lost fear of them In this case the group of 5 youths were warned by two hikers on the trail that there was ...

Re: Who has a topper/cap on their pickup and how is equipped

I really like those old aluminum caps that have the large side windows that open upward Makes it much easier to get stuff in and out the truck then ones with those little sliding windows. They usually come with a roof rack too I see them all the time at auctions and they don't see to be that popular ...

Re: How Long Will Guns Last?

I'd think a break action gun would wear out sooner than any of the others because of the constant opening and closing of the action. Think about it, you've got to open the action to load the gun and again to eject the spent rounds. Do that enough times and the action will begin to flop open, making...

Re: How Long Will Guns Last?

OK this is my experience "simpler" designs are not always as robust as more "complicated" ones with guns. I have seen more double barrel shotguns that had function problems then I have pump shotguns, usually it is their safety that gives you trouble though I have seen bad springs or hammers inside. ...

Re: How Long Will Guns Last?

I collect...and shoot...antique guns and I think it is about impossible for a person to wear out anything like a quality gun by to much shooting. Maybe if you are a high volumn competition shooter but I think it is going to be many tens or hundreds of thousands of rounds. Really isn't something you ...

This is probably going to twist a lot of knickers but, I see a lot of similarities between 1911 allegiance and mosin allegiance. Not really. They are still making 1911's and in more than one configuration. Who is still making the Mosin? That should tell you exactly how far out of date it is. Wouldn...

Looks like an illegal SBR, is a pistol with a rifle stock which is illegal with out prior approval and paying the tax stamp. Is obvious that the pistol is set up so that it can be fired from the shoulder using the stock. I'm surprised that ruger doesn't make the pistol so that a stock for a 10/22 wo...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

The Human skull is very thin and any load with enough mass and velocity will penetrate it, I've seen No. 1 buckshot go through an oak fence board at 70 yds so no worry that buck shot will not penetrate a skull. If you are going to use a shotgun you need to pattern it to see how it shoots with differ...

Re: Shotgun for someone with low vision

An older Remington 870 pump is hard to beat and can be picked up for less then $200 if you look around. For what you want you can buy one with a long hunting barrel and then sell the barrel to get a short one or just hacksaw it off at just over 18 in. mossbergs while not the same quality as an older...
