Minimal effective bow draw weight

What would you all consider to be the minimal draw weight on any bow, to make it effective for either hunting or defense (in a last ditch effort because my 3000+ rounds are all used up). I currently have a 40 lb recurve, and my wife has a 30 lb recurve. They were purchased with target shooting as th...

Near Me

http://www.nyzapocalypse.com/

I soooo badly want to check this place out. It's literally 15 minutes from my house, but I haven't been able to coordinate my friends to get together for a big enough group to make it worth while. Any LI'ers been here?

Sig Sauer repairs

My Sig 226 just got sent back to the factory due to a problem with the front site falling off :ohdear: . Has anyone else had an issue like this? Also, how fast is Sig when repairing firearms and are they easy to deal with? I've had the gun for 3 years now, and this is my first time fixing it.

Re: noob gun owner - questions about safety glasses and guns

If you have the option, my girlfriend simply took a pair of prescription glasses that she doesn't use anymore (scratched lenses, bent frame, etc) and uses them as shooting glasses. If you have a wire frame set of spectacles ($10 word :D ) you can bend them slightly in, so they come close enough to y...

Re: What is your bug out setup?

I've got a Remington bolt-action .22 rifle with two magazines, and a Sig Mosquito (.22 LR) for my bug-out bag. I have an assortment of weapons at home that I can throw into a holster and take (Sig 226 - 9mm; Glock 27 - .40 cal; S&W mod 36 - .38) plus a .30-30 rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun which can b...

I'd be up for that. My GF and I are looking to broaden our horizons, and hiking is the next item on our list. Camping and SCUBA are being taken care of next month (for her).

Re: Osama Death Leading to Increased Terrorism?

BOB is packed and prepped. Truck has no less than 1/2 tank of gas at any time. Stocked with near 2,000 rounds of assorted ammo. Food and water for 2 weeks. P.D. issue Tyvec suit with respirator at the ready. Less than a mile from my Fire station, with back-up generator, tools, and a 2.5 ton ALL terr...

Re: Higher Alert

Statistically, you're even more likely to be killed by a shark than a terrorist. But 10 years ago 3000 ppl thought that too. My bosses at work are advising us to stay alert, keep our eyes open on patrols, and just maintain situational awareness, as mentioned. And while no credible threats are out th...

Higher Alert

Just want to throw out there (I'm sure you are all aware already) but in light of Bin Laden's death, the threat of attempts at vengeance by extremist groups is certainly going to be greater. Everyone please be careful, and keep your eyes open extra wide these next few months.

Re: Good .22 Pistol for the Range

If you've already got a sig, I recommend the mosquito. I've got a 226 chambered in 9mm, and I picked up the mosquito a few months later for plinking. It isn't identical, but it's pretty close. However, if you really really want to practice with your main gun, then you're best off with a .22 conversi...

Re: My first .22 Pistol

I've got the Sig Mosquito, and I love the thing. cheap ammo makes it misfire once or twice out of 50 rds, but that's the nature of cheap .22 ammo, no matter what gun you use.

Re: Should I take an EMT or Medic class?

Like others have said, don't go cold into medic. Spend one year as a EMT, two if you live in a slow area (less than 1,000 calls a year) at the very least, before you consider going for medic. Personally I spent 1 year doing 8 - 10 BLS calls a day, 5 days a week, and then 6 months riding with a medic...

Re: ZSC:007 and Guns

Calverton is surprisingly well regulated, yet also very non-invasive with rules. People are tasked with policing themselves and their neighbors, and are explained the rules upon entering. Everyone obeys the cease-fire order and target-collecting is done in an orderly fashion. You don't have a range ...

Re: ZSC:007 and Guns

Long Island is worse than upstate with regard to guns (at least from what I hear). the only two places I shoot are my local indoor pistol range in Uniondale (nassau county pistol/rifle range), and Calverton for the bigger toys :D

Personally, I bide my time, work my ass off, and put a little money away at a time when I see something I like. Re: Stories of how you got FREE AMMO

was at my local range shooting .22 when a buddy of mine shot the paper target clip down on "accident." range ordered a cease fire while they went to fix it, and we got a free hour if we helped police all the brass that rolled downrange. opened the half-door of my particular section of the range and ...
