Re: Hurricanes 2017

SO's Aunt didn't leave New Smyrna beach on Wednesday, as I had thought. She stayed there to board up her house. She is right on the A1, the only thing separating her house from the ocean is a chest-high sand dune, and she's about a dozen lots north of Cape Canaveral National Sea Shore. The vehicle a...

Re: Hurricanes 2017

. The question for the hive-mind is: What organizations (official, community-based, social media groups) should I be looking for? E.g. I heard from our forum that there was a FB group helping organize volunteer rescue efforts during Harvey - awesome job BTW. Team Rubicon is always hurting for bodie...

Re: Hurricanes 2017

SO's cousin who lives in Miami left Miami last night at 2200 and arrived at Fort Pierce a little before 0600 this morning(Thursday). Looking at the map, this wasn't a very fast pace. They had stopped so they could convoy further north with the in-laws, I have no idea how that turned out(I've been at...

Re: "Walking Dead" Cable Series

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but they're supposed to be somewhere around D.C. right? Yes, and living in Northern Virginia, the setting does not really match the area. Maybe if they were further out, but it's basically one big sprawl 30 miles from the Potomac. So much of the show is still basically look...

Re: "Walking Dead" Cable Series

My thought: Shoot Negan through the gate and open fire from the ramparts on the rest of Negan's crew. Saviors are decapitated and destroy themselves in the succession fight. Might lose Daryl in the gunfight, but hey, Negan's dead. End of season. They attempted something similar in the comics. It......

Re: How to prepare against MRAPs

Besides police departments we also have major military depots full of MRAPs. I've come across them in the local deserts more than a few times Several years back I was in SW Virginia along the WV border on a campout. When I got to the trailhead at the end of it and made it to pavement, I discovered ...

It isn't the poor people in the US you should worry about(forgetting for a moment that many poor people live in coastal flood zones), it's the swarm of climate refugees that will dwarf what's happening in Europe.

Re: Moving with firearms

Moving from VA to Texas, although we're moving to Southern Texas we will likely be heading through Arkansas rather than Louisiana, I heard too many stories about bad experiences with LA, even northern LA, when I was stationed in Pensacola. As a result I'm not too worried about gun laws per se, and I...

Moving with firearms

Posting here because the Travel forum is dead, dead, dead. Moving to Tejas this fall. Ideally I would pay someone to move most of my household goods. Obviously, it would Not Be Smart to let them move guns and ammo. While I am reasonably confident I can cram my gun collection into my Fusion Hybrid, n...

Buy a WASR or a N-PAP. Or a DDI if you want an all-American gun. The RAS47 is dogcrap.

Re: Any incipient panic buying in your AO?

Everything seems normal even with everything going on with the .gov I wonder if the market is still at the saturation level, or the ammo manufacturers are moving so much more compared to spring of '13 that there is still plenty on the shelves, which all on it's own would probably prevent a panic. L...

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

I moved within the state in February and had filed what I assumed to be the correct paperwork with the ATF in March to update my C&R. Here it is June and I haven't heard a peep from them.

Should I call someone? Who should I call? The only number I got is for checking on my silencer that's in jail.

Re: Any incipient panic buying in your AO?

Standard mags seem to have been on a slow boil for the past few months here in NOVA, while there isn't a complete emptying of the selves yet, a few of my LGSs are reporting a fairly steady flow out and them having to increase inflow. I suspect that the various manufacturers have really cranked it up...

Re: China MAY Put its Nuclear Weapons on High Alert

Man, I was just coming to say they'd just announced the lifting of the embargo. Here's hoping Vietnam wants to buy some F15s! Highly doubtful that F-15s will make their way to Vietnam. Frankly, despite the lifting of the embargo, there is too much political risk there to risk making the premier air...

Re: Personal firearms inventory database.

I've not been crazy about the idea of the insurance company having a list on file for a couple of reasons; 1. data breaches giving hackers a shopping list to sell to thieves I highly doubt hackers are selling off personal property lists to random tweebs who do B&E. In fact, I would bet you would be...

I replaced the upper on my M&P-15. It wasn't a Sport, but I got it in 2012 and it had a 1/9 twist rate. After deciding to switch to midlength gas system and 1/7, I ended up just getting a new upper from a local place. I made sure it had a Silencerco ASR flashhider on it, since I have a Omega in jail...

Re: Are We on the Cusp of 'Post-Antibiotic Era'?

Does the possibility of a "post-antibiotic era" exist at reasonable probability levels? If so what is a probable time frame? Honestly, I think it's more likely than a "natural"(as in, not weaponized germs) viral pandemic ever will be. How likely and how soon? I'd say greater than 50/50 chance next ...
