Re: Buying Brand New Truck?

One minor suggestion: see if you can find a 1 to 2 year old truck in excellent condition to buy. That way someone else was paying the hefty first-year depreciation.

Welcome from Western New York. Where abouts in PA are you? (I used to spend a fair amount of time in Erie/Edinboro)

Re: Greetings from Fort Erie

Hello from across the Niagara River! There used to be a ZS group that met on the first Friday of the month IIRC in/around Niagara Falls, ON. I don't know if they are still around.

(I would also love to meet with like-minded people in the WNY / Southern Ontario area, but Friday evenings are booked).

Re: Looking for thoughts on a knife...

I decided to go with the TAK1. One of our team guys is an Ontario dealer, and can get me the knife at just over wholesale. If I don't like it, then I'll try again.

Re: In the market for a radio, looking for advice

I've got the freq/tone list for the channels we typically use. If I pick from the list above, the "radio guy" on our team is happy to program the radio for me (and could possibly program something else). If I pick off the list, I may need to track down a USB cable and software to program. SOP for ou...

Re: In the market for a radio, looking for advice

We primarily operate VHF between 150 and 163 MHz, although occasionally UHF to talk with other agencies. I know there are radios out there that will do both UHF and VHF, but I'm told that they are kinda like a swiss army knife - not bad, but not as good as a dedicated tool. If the radios listed abov...

Re: In the market for a radio, looking for advice

*Making* me buy one, no. However the team's funds are limited, and the situation is "you may be without a radio for a while if you are waiting for us to issue one to you".

Anyone have experience with green goo?

Saw this on a gear site and was intrigued by the concept: Green Goo First Aid salve

Anyone have any experience using it? Only two reviews on Amazon, so I'm hesitant to take a plunge.

My local volunteer fire company has an Explorer program for teens where they can get First Responder certified (along with the fire stuff). Something to look into.

Do they have full tang Moras at a good price point? I didn't mention full tang in the OP, but that is one of my requirements.

Looking for thoughts on a knife...

Hi all, I'm in the market for a new knife for wilderness SAR work (along with general bushcraft). I would like something in the 4-5" size range with a fine edge. I would prefer no glass breaker or other stuff at the pommel, just a plain end. Right now my top two contenders are: Ontario Tak-1 ESEE 4 ...
