Re: In Praise of the $5 stove

I have one of those little gas stoves that I bought off Amazon for 5 or 6 dollars
they don't work as efficiently as the more expensive stoves but they do work
I bought mine sometime in 2013 and it works fine
I also bought the adapter so that you can use the cheaper butane cartridges with it

Re: How do you justify paying $200+ for an EDC blade?

I rotate my edc's fairly regularly They range from a $15 Dozier Ka-bar to a just under $200 Spyderco However for myself I find the folding knives I edc to have a sweet spot around $50 to $75 in terms of quality steel and good fit and finish I do a fair amount of hiking/camping and hunting For these ...

Re: Man Uses Spear to Save Girlfriend from Mountain Lion

I remember seeing the guy being interviewed on the local news and he showed the spear. Here in Canada it is quite easy to get you PAL (permit to buy/own non-restricted firearms) As long as you don't have a criminal record (primarily violence or drug related) you basically take the course and send yo...

I believe the Canadians Forces in the Search and Rescue (active service army) are different from the Canadian Rangers (which are somewhat like the National Guard). http://www.forces.ca/en/job/searchandrescuetechnician-11 The Canadian Rangers are supposed to get new rifles, but their government is s...

Most of the factory loads for the 30/30 are between 1600 and 2050 ft lbs
which is about 1/2 to 2 times the energy of the 357 load that you mentioned

I will start off by saying that I am a hunter first and gun collector second The main animals that I hunt are moose, mule deer and elk At present I have the following lever actions Winchester model 88 in 308 (over 35 years hunting with it) Marlin model 336 in 30/30 (around 25 years hunting with it) ...

Re: most useful caliber for lever action in my area

Out of an 18 inch barrel, .357 is ballistically similar to .30-30, especially in some of the hotter .357 loads, or those made for rifles. Maybe I just love .357, but thats what I would suggest. There are a lot of really good commercial loads for it, and in a rifle its recoil is very tame. That marl...

But would a SBR be legal in Canada? Something like a Henry Mare's Leg but with a full stock? IDK enough about Canada's gun laws to know if that would be legal.
Here in Canada a Mares leg is considered a rifle and is non-restricted

Not the most accurate gun for sure but something that works well in a temperate rain forest

Yes it must be great since the HEST folders from Lionsteel had no issues
And everyone knows how hollow handles improve the durability of a hard use knife

It may be a great knife but I question the usefulness of some of the "extras" on the knife, and I have owned an original HEST for a few years

Re: I need some advice from hunters.

I have used a 308 loaded with 180 grain bullets successfully on both elk and moose (and deer) Iirc the 30/06 has about 12% more velocity than a 308 does with the same weight bullet, since most manufacturers use the identical bullet for both rounds they can be compared directly In essence what a 308 ...

Re: I need some advice from hunters.

Personally I don't know why you would get rid of a 308 to buy a 270 In practical terms there really isn't much difference between the two I don't know about other people but I am sure that if you gave me three identical rifles in 308, 270 and 30/06 and blindfolded me, I wouldn't be able to tell the ...

Scary. Sorta glad we moved away from a major centre. Granted that's no guarantee that it won't happen here, we are the biggest city outside of the lower mainland in BC.
