Re: Gold: Sacred Cow or Useful?
Thanks Raptor! Great information, for the record I'm not convinced on buying silver. It was just an interesting conversation that she didn't want us to pay her back instead buy silver with it. I personally (pretty sure I said it in my post) think it would be better spent in a private savings accoun...

I like the fact that gold and silver have been recognized as "money" for thousands of years.

Does the town or county allow hooking up 2 "houses" to one septic system?
I would think the septic was designed to only meet the needs of the original house

Not practical? What else you gonna split yer carcasses with? Seriously, I recently saw a video of one being used to break down the carcass of a hog that looked to be the size of a fully grown bull.   Got some steel in to make some more at some point in the future. Re: How to stock up on prescription medications.
I also do something similar with the 2 meds I take. In my case I take 50 mg of one script but the 100 mg tablet is basically the same price. So I got my MD to write the RX for the 100 mg dose and simple break the pill in half. I order the script in a 90 day supply so it works out to a 180 day suppl...

Re: Low Profile Protection for Your Nugget
Bullet energy is absorbed over distance, energy absorbed is force x distance. If you stick a solid, rigid object behind the flexible energy absorber the force goes up until the rigid object fails. The new force x distance has a higher force and lower distance to absorb the same energy. Unfortunatel...

Re: Solar Panel Question - Goal Zero or Brunton?
The old saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies – in most residential installation scenarios, cleaning solar panels just isn’t worth the bother – or the potential danger if accessing your rooftop. Unless dirt is clearly visible or performance is noticeably impacted; simply let nature do the...

A reading of 5.85 is very low, about 20%---fully charged should be about 6.5

Re: When is it time to give up your guns?
That reminds me of one of my favorite quotes " BETTER TO BE MISSED BY A .45 THAN HIT BY A .22 " When I lived in NYC I had a friend of mine who had 9 .22s still in his arm under the skin years after a drive-by sprayed him. Unless they hit just right they'll hurt like a mother but probably won't kill...

As they got older they helped with canning.
They also learned to take care of chickens
and how to fish

Re: opinions/advice about alternative dog breeds for hunting
This is just my experience watching and owning dogs over the years, with few exceptions, most of them haven't really been working dogs. Dogs will generally do what their genes tell them to do, training really only enhances and hones this. If you have a herding dog, it will herd. In the absence of s...

Re: Central America volunteering... HELP ME PACK
I never understood why people travel to other countries to help. I've always found there to be plenty of my fellow Americans in need of help. One can do a lot of good in their own community or nearby & not have to buy special equipment. Travel expenses alone to other countries are quite a "waste" of...

Re: 150 Stranded at Your House (Actual Event)
My parents owned a small rural restaurant. On a Frday in 1977 a blizzard struck and 16 people were stranded there
until Monday. My folks fed them and kept them comfortable.
Ya know, only 4 came back later to offer to pay for food they had eaten.

So,Sandy is discounted because it was "only" a category 2 when it struck the East coast? Hurricane Sandy (unofficially known as "Superstorm Sandy") was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, and the second-costliest hurricane in United States history.
