Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

hmm He fired eight times at the one assailant and twice at the other. THe other was out of camera frame when fired on. Wonder what was going on there that caused him to fire only two times and switch focus right back to the first guy Great question. I'm wondering if the other criminal was still han...

Re: Wuuut! Tactical Crossbow

Interesting. A sustained ROF of six per minute compared to a well trained longbowman averaging 8-20 a minute. Although the time appears to mostly spent reloading. Agreed. Maybe it's another step towards something closer to a longbow though. In reload speed I mean. And supporting this guy that leads...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

This is a really impressive video of a CCW in action defending a life against 2 criminals. And while I"m a fan of revolvers, this video makes an excellent argument for carrying as much gun with as much ammo as possible. I have seen a few such videos. The other excellent point here is that one MUST t...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

2) Caliber is largely irrelevant. Bullet design is what we need to look at. Properly constructed bullets at the intended velocity are far more important than what caliber you shoot. Hmmm really? So a properly constructed .25 acp hollow point is better than a .45 cal FMJ ? Even if that .25 penetrate...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Last word in bullets knowledge. While they have a great discussion of the utility or limits of the utility of bullet energy/muzzle energy, I would argue that hunting ranges can be very different from SD distances, so projectiles advertised for hunting should probably be built with that variation in ...

Re: New York denies request to allow 44 unvaccinated students back in class

Regarding New York: their political choices are something I cannot agree with. But I don't live there and so I say "as long as you don't try and force me to live by your rules, you keep being you." Regarding the decisions on vaccination: I"m not real excited about governments or others telling me wh...

Re: Bug Out Gear Deals (Post 'em when you find 'em) I

Have not been on that site in a long time. Wasn't really impressed by their optics prices but the body armor was priced nicely. $220 for a Spartan carrier with four plates is not bad. I believe however you may have violated the rules of the thread since the site requires membership. AT least we're ...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Getting back into reloading. I have not touched it since 2016. But I bought components. Sold the pistol. Got a new one for my birthday. So... I'm loading up .38 and .38+P for my .357. I'm not too worried about over pressure since I'm just going to swim in the .38 pool for a while until I get my sea...

Re: Coffee not essential for life, Swiss government says

There are 2 non-negotiable prep items for me. Coffee and canned condensed milk for my coffee. The Swiss obviously want to save money. It is their money and thier choice. That said it would be interesting to see a shelter full of people on day 2when there is no coffee. I can imagine what it will be ...

Re: Coffee not essential for life, Swiss government says

Something some of our Swedish friends have mentioned is Sweden is more concerned with domestic terrorism than with invasion by Russia. So yes, non-NATO countries are preparing, but Russia is just one of the threats. However, for political reasons, it seems the Swedish government is not pointing expl...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Possibly a silly question but... Is there any reason a standard A2 birdcage 1/2-28 thread can't be used on a 1/2-28 thread 9mm? I can't remember the exact number, but the exit hole diameter on a mil-spec A2 birdcage is only around .300....a bit small than the diameter of a 9mm/.355. A few companies...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

I was looking something up in the online manual for my S&W M&P .45 Shield today and came across an ammo listing chart that I do not remember from the printed manual (which I seem to have lost) and in that chart found that the gun is rated for +P ammo. My current carry ammo is Federal 230gr HST whic...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

@NT2C: I forgot to say: if you are concerned about barrier penetration, I would look into Hornedy Critical Duty. I have looked at them and seen them fail spectacularly in some barrier tests, with either minimal or no expansion in some tests, leading to gross penetration. (MAC did one shot through I...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

I really wish LG would do their ammo tests, at least for some calibers (9mm, .38 Sp) for sub-compact/snubbie length barrels. I'd be very interesting in seeing any differences. All their revolver tests are done with both a 2 inch and 4 inch barreled revolver. Both results are posted. https://www.luc...
