Re: tent heater?

Thanks for the reply and info. That tent looks like it would work well here in the northeast woods. BTW your Ruger reminds me of Patrick Smith's old Remington 600 Ramblin rifle. oh man, I miss the golden years of Kifaru and the Kifaru forums, a lot of people asking interesting questions and coming ...

Re: tent heater?

for occasional use Mr. Buddy heaters seem the most popular, I was recently camping with someone that was heating a 3-man dome tent with one, but he had to swap out the 1lb cylinders at least once during the night. The size and weight is a non-starter for backpacking, but for car camping it might be...

Re: One-person bug shelter question

I've got four of these https://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/us-military-surplus-usmc-pop-up-bivy-new?a=1902300 which I think is what you are talking about. We use them in June brook trout fishing based out of lean to/Andarondaks in northern Maine. Nobody complains about bugs while sleeping...

Re: MSR XGK series of stoves

I have one of those military ones. I picked it up last year on sale. I've got a maintenance kit coming mostly for the white gas jet for now. Anybody know what the deal is on the Arctic pump? I ordered one because I plan on this being a winter stove(melting snow). Seems odd the military version doesn...

Re: WMBO: pulk & hot tent

I would try a dedicated pillow. I got an Exped one as a gift from one of the kids and it is way better than any improvised one. If anybody asks me I always recommend my Schnees boots http://www.schnees.com/product/SCHNEES-Hunter-II-pac-boots/schnees-hunting-boots for winter camping/snowshoeing. The ...

I believe the snow peak spork is one of the most expensive pieces of "silverware" just saying! Fair enough brother. How about a 2 dollar SS oriental soup spoon? Say more why does this shit always have to happen in windy subzero dark? I will say one thing. If anyone's life should ever come do...

Re: Sleep system...can I get away without buying a new bag?

I would get a zero degree bag. I don't think you will get much sleep with that setup you have. In my opinion your sleep system is very important to your wellbeing and being able to function over serveral days.

Re: Modustollens Summer Bug-out, Entry 3: Canoe Bugout

Nice trip thanks for posting!!! I've never had good luck with those plastic ammo cans, although yours may be a different manufacturer than the ones we buy at work. I use the regular GI ammo cans for pyros, registration etc in the skiffs at work. After a few years the salt water does take its toll and...

Re: Thinking of getting a USGI green Patrol bag

I "think" the patrol bag is military rated to 32 for 4hrs wearing some clothing. WW 40 degree is about right. I use mine as an overbag in the winter to get my 0 degree bag down to -17 at least. Good value for about 40 bucks.

Nice update! What size pullout do you have your MREs in? A couple of questions on why you had a couple things. I was wondering why the cleaning kit I would think it unnessary, maybe a cleaning rod if you somehow got crap in your bbl? Lose ammo, why not another magazine? Thanks for taking the time and...

Re: HPG winter Rondy/MBO

I tried that parka in the sleeping bag and didn't care for it. I picked up a USGI patrol bag for about 40 bucks and have used that over my 0 degree bag and have been good to -20. The patrol bag is 2 lbs and change I "think". My down parka is from the 70s a Sierra Designs not sure of the weight. I ha...

Thanks for posting! I had thought about bringing kneepads on my last outing, I had seen pictures of others using them, but forgot. Seems like it would make setting up etc. easier.
