Re: Any sugestions for a week long hospital stay kit?

When I broke my leg 2 years ago I had a weeks stay in hospital; I had no hospital bag ready just in case, so my frazzled husband had the task of quickly gathering any belongings that I needed. I absolutely recommend a sleep mask, it helped me ‘switch off’ and I was glad of mine. Hospitals are alway...

I have never used a sleep mask. But the one you posted is in the right color. So I might pick one up.

Re: Any sugestions for a week long hospital stay kit?

Ear plugs. The foam kind that you roll between your fingers and then quickly insert into your ear canal where they expand to make a nice, comfy fit. You can thank me now or you can thank me in December, but trust me on this. YES! I EDC hearing protection since I am autistic and have auditory sensit...

Re: Any sugestions for a week long hospital stay kit?

Does the patient area of the hospital have wifi? Chargers. My own toothbrush, shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc. Notepad & pens. Underwear. Books? Sandals. My own drugs, prescription and OTC, vitamins. As far as I know they do have wifi. I know other Kaiser facilities have wifi. So I would assume the h...

Re: Any sugestions for a week long hospital stay kit?

Don't forget your phone/tablet charger! And possibly an extension cord or some kind of extra battery charger. YES! It would SUCK if I forgot my charger. That's getting added to the list under cellphone/tablet. Thankfully my phone, tablet, blue tooth headset, and tactical flashlight (Thrunite TC12 V...

Any sugestions for a week long hospital stay kit?

In December I am going to have to spend a week in the hospital after a surgery. Anyone have any suggestions for what I should bring? Here are some things I have in mind so far. Comfortable clothes to wear when I leave Vegan protein bars. The hospital does offer vegan food. But I want to bring someth...

Re: DIY Portable LiFePO4 Power for Ham Radio QRP QRO

Very cool! I have a commercial 12 volt lithium that is an SLA replacement. It's a nice battery; but this guy's batter pack looks much nicer. In case anyone's wondering; the admin pouch he is using is the Condor T&T pouch. http://www.condoroutdoor.com/ma54tandtpouch.aspx I really need to get my porta...

Re: DIY high calorie ration bars

I like this idea, and could probably come up with some ideas of my own, but..... First. Pemican. It's been around for ages, is high calorie and is easy to make. Now, pemican is not perfect. It is damn near impossible to eat raw, you generally have to soak it. It also makes you VERY thirsty. So mayb...

Re: ALICE pack prices.

I have been tempted to get an ALICE pack after seeing tacair attache an antenna mount to the frame. It looks like an awesome setup for portable radio ops. Join the cult! http://www.hfpack.com/ a random HF Pack member's web page http://wa3wsj.homestead.com/HF-Pack.html Yea I have seen the HF pack we...

Re: Cheap, light weight, compact shoes for your BOB

These are my summer shoes. Haven't had anything manage to actually go through it, which is impressive when you have goat heads and mesquite thorns. Not good for walking on pavement (or really, anywhere) for long distances unless you are dang used to having no support or cushioning. They can also he...

Cheap, light weight, compact shoes for your BOB

A while back I came across a company called Xero Shoes. https://xeroshoes.com/ They make a sandal inspired by the tire sandals worn by Tarahumara Indians in Mexico. One of the hallmarks of all of their shoes is that they have a thin sole. This makes them very compact and light weight. They would be ...

Re: Do-It Yourself Ration Packs By Mantis - the Sequel

Unfortunately I am not a fan of Hummus. Otherwise that would be a great high protein vegan option. I have seen instant hummus mix in the bulk bins at Winco. That would probably be a cheaper way to go. I bet other places carry it too. Ya know I should probably give the hummus mix a try. If it's edibl...

Re: Traill Friendly radios - new content 2/25 Elecraft KX2

I don't know if this is only for CW QRP but, I have the Yaesu ft-857 for my main rig at home, but I just got the Xiegu X108G Outdoor version which is about a mid range priced QRP radio. It has the benefit of going up to 20 W when plugged in to a 13.8 v power source and up to 15 W for 12 v battery o...

Re: Traill Friendly radios - new content 2/25 Elecraft KX2

Given the price of the KX3 my vote is still for the FT-817. But I have never used a KX3. So it might very well be worth the money.

I've never tried it, but immediately thought about powdered coconut milk. I wasn't aware of powdered coconut milk. I have some Coconut Coffee that uses coconut instead of creamer. The problem is that it only comes in larger containers and single serving coffee cups. https://www.cacafe.com/products/...

Re: Do-It Yourself Ration Packs By Mantis - the Sequel

I'm a big fan of the aseptic-packaged Indian food entrees for my DIY ration packs. Brand names like Tasty Bite, Kohinoor and Trader Joes (e.g. https://www.boxed.com/product/1049/tasty-bite-channa-masala-6-x-10-oz.-vegetarian?ref=3&gid=1049&gclid=Cj0KEQiA88TFBRDYrOPKuvfY2pIBEiQA97Z8Mc6Uh_ygAV3cCvy7W...

Re: Do-It Yourself Ration Packs By Mantis - the Sequel

Good information. A lot of folks should make their own kits rather than buying one pre-made online. You know the stuff you like, the stuff you can use and you can usually get more for a fraction of the cost versus buying from an online survival store. It's also important if you have dietary restric...

Re: Do-It Yourself Ration Packs By Mantis - the Sequel

I am still on the look out for a prep friendly vegan creamer option. "non dairy creamer" isn't actually non dairy. It contains casein. But if I can't find something suitable I am willing to go with the non dairy creamer option. At the Asian markets they sell instant coffee with creamer and sugar tha...

Nice idea. I may have to do something like that. I just need to figure out how to do that with vegan items. For a canned meat replacement I could go with the canned items from Loma Linda. http://lomalindabrand.com/vegan-foods-lower-in-cholesterol-and-fat-than-meat/ They have some options that come i...

Deal alert of sorts on a very well-reviewed keychain flashlight, the Nitecore Tip, with 360 lm output, multiple modes and a button lockout function, a really thoughtful feature for something designed to share your pocket with other items. It sells for $30 on Amazon ( https://smile.amazon.com/Niteco...
