With a statement like that, Boganey should probably consider a lawsuit.

After the last year, I'm beginning to question if robots taking over might be the lesser of two evils.

Long ago my school counselor insisted "caveman" was not an optional career. I'm thinking it could soon be a great career.
Should've put "homesteader".

Re: Texas power shortage again...maybe?

To me, it just re-enforces the utility of local renewables and storage. Balance in all things; excessive centralization is too fragile and slow to respond, excessive distribution is inefficient. I'd like to see nuclear for base load (or geothermal, tidal battery, pumped hydro, etc where appropriate)...

Re: US pauses Johnson & Johnson vaccine shots

Also - this quote from the BBC really bugs me, because I see it (and others like it) echoed around... The US has by far the most confirmed cases of Covid-19 - more than 31 million - with more than 562,000 deaths, another world high. The US is the 3rd most populous country in the world, following be...

Texas power shortage again...maybe?

Apparnetly ERCOT's asking people to watch power use , as it will get down into the 50s for quite a while next week. I mean...it's just the 50s, but I suppose there are a lot of people who will crank the heat to nearly 80 or something. Dunno. Regardless, it is a potential disaster of sorts if power ...

There is, it's an immune reaction in both to the use of an adenovirus, and overwhelmingly occurs in women under 50-60. I dunno if it's the same adenovirus used in both vaccines, or just the same technique; out of my area of expertise. Based on A-Z findings (which seems reasonable, given the commonal...

Re: Firearms Chat: [2021 - Aw, sorry to hear about your boating accident!]

Dad's got an old Speedmaster that'll handle shorts, not sure about CBs. But after some playing with my Henry, I'm not sure he isn't keeping an eye out for a lever gun. If it will cycle shorts, these CCI CB caps will work. They are simply .22RF short cases with a lead projectile and a smaller powder...

Re: Firearms Chat: [2021 - Aw, sorry to hear about your boating accident!]

I went to a gun show on a whim this past week end. I picked up one of these to replace a lever action pest rifle on the farm that is older than me. I use everything from CB caps, short & LR in the lever action. The cb caps are great for quiet short range venomous snake & rat rounds. The ruger 10/22...

I am not sure that Milt Sparks still makes them, they used to make a "six pack" in single stack and double stack back in the day. I have a half dozen of them, including a custom one that holds six Wilson Roger 10 round magazines. Might be worth a look to see if they still make those. From what I ca...

Re: COVID-19 Chat Thread

That's more or less the view I've been taking, that most people probably need it more than I do. I work from home, I'm single, and I'm not terribly social; so I'm probably a low-probability spreader. My health history is almost perfect, so I'm not really likely to get it. Having just said that, I f...

Re: Vaccinate: Yes or No?

Just got the J&J vaccine. So far--about an hour--no big deal.

Muscle's a bit sore, but could well be from having a piece of metal jammed into it rather than any action of the vaccine. Arm's maybe swollen, maybe not.

No other notable effects as yet.

Placed an order with Midway USA for some Metalform Pro series 8 round 1911 magazines. I placed the order at 1:35 and it shipped at 1:46, so not even ten minutes later I got an email saying the mags are already headed my way. That was quick. I have Wilson Combat 10rd for mine, plus the 7rd t...

It's kinda stretching "firearms", but close enough since it's a standin during the ammo shortage: I have an airsoft 1911, original pattern. It's decent, about as good as one can hope under the circumstances. However, airsoft has a lot more force than I thought, and I chipped my back door shooting th...

My biggest problem with the vaccines so far is that I can't find an appointment reasonably nearby to get vaccinated. :| Most places are booked up for like 2 weeks. Re: Firearms Chat: [2021 - Aw, FFS! BOHICA]

So my quest for a 1911 in my AO continues. Stopped at three different shops today (ok, so two were actual gun shops and the other was Academy) and neither of them had a 1911 I liked. One shop had a couple Les Baer 1911s, but I'm not quite at the point where I can drop nearly 3k on a gun just yet. T...
