Re: bicycle field repair kit

I love my 'cool tool', they dont make them anymore  I have a slime type product in the tires already, still carry a tube, pump, and levers. Crescent wrench on the cooltool could work as levers in a pinch, but i like my rims gouge free. Keep a presta adapter on a valvestem. All rides well in t...

Re: WMBO: Snow biking

What width tires are you running?
Are they Maxxis Ikons?

I've tried running 2.2 and 2.3" Ikons in the snow and it 'knifes' too much to be controllable.

Regarding Tires; I've been dealing with Discount Tire Direct for my last 4 sets. Great prices, no taxes, and free delivery. If you buy wheels at the same time, they will mount and balance them also for no charge.
I tried to buy local, but I can't afford to.

Also sorry for late reply. No, I'm not in a club currently, though have considered joining Blue Mountain Jeep Alliance when my schedule frees up a bit.

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATE

UPDATE: Picked up some 35s, specifically Goodyear Duratracs in 315/70r17. Went back and forth between Duratracs and the new BFG KO2S, which I have also read good things about. Went with the Duratracs (again), as for me, they are a proven tire. New wheels to replace the previous 16s. Aluminum. Nothin...

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATE

Very nice!, the sliders are worth every pound they weigh in my experience. FYI- I once did an entire full size Bronco (inside and out) with U-POL Raptor liner and was pretty happy with both the finish and durability. I may have to check out the U-POL liner if the current finish doesn't hold up. Tha...

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATE

That rear bumper looks beefy as hell. Great job on the refurb too, makes it look new. -urban Well, if weight is any indicator of strength, I'll have no issues. Because of the weight, I needed my wife and daughter to help secure the bumper in place while I bolted it down. It was a circus. I'm ...

Added the latest mods yesterday: Focus was protecting the Jeep. Sorry about the rainy pics. Rampage Rear Recovery Bumper with Tire Carrier: This was a Craiglist find at a price I couldn't pass up. Needed lots of work, but I was looking for a project. Completely dissasembled, stripped, and refinished...

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATE

Love Rausch Creek!!! I only went once as a passenger as I don't have the cash to have a dedicated trail vehicle. there are some crazy machines there and the views are breathtaking, especially for PA. Did you camp there or did you just do a day trip? No need for a dedicated trail rig to wheel there....

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATE

Did some Wheelin' at Rausch Creek on Sunday. For those who've never been to Rausch Creek Offroad Park, I HIGHLY recommend it. They have over 3000 acres of trails for all skills and vehicle build levels. They even offer introductory courses for those that have never offroaded before. Our ride was a g...

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATE

Everyone knows the stickers enhance the off road capability of a rig- I have priced the 18's and am unfortunately well aware of the price. But I want to build up an off road trailer (I already have the base trailer) with matching rims and found a great deal on a set that I snapped up. So I'm sittin...

I'll be rolling the 295/65/18's with 2.5" OME lift and tubular UCA's. ... Does the Rubicon have the selectable lockers? Have you priced 18s yet? Ridiculously expensive. Years ago I had a Wrangler Sahara that came with factory 18s. It was cheaper to buy new tires AND 16" wheels (aluminum) than it wa...

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATE

Awesome rig build! I am especially interested in how you like the Duratracs. Those are the ones I'm planning on going with for my Land Cruiser. Absolutely Love the Duratracs. Been running Duratracs for several years now. While I understand that an all terrain tire tire is a compromise, Im pretty co...

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATE

After months of research I finally decided on a lift. I went to the Harrisburg Sportman's Show and after seeing some of the Overland/Expedition-modded Wrangler JKs on display, I was inspired. :D I went with AEVs 2.5" XT lift. As it sits right now, without aftermarket front bumper/winch/rear bumper, ...

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATED

I traded in the 2 door. Replaced it with a 4 door. 3 reasons. 1. The Manual Transmission ( NSG-370, Mercedes) was horrible. It rarely wanted to go smoothly into gear - especially 2nd-3rd. It clunked loud enough during shifts to draw the attention of others. The throwout bearing was already whining a...

Have you looked into the Ace Engineering rear bumper/tire combo?? http://www.northridge4x4.com/shop/ace-pro-series-jk-rear-bumper-with-tire-carrier-and-hitch Right now I have the OR-Fab/rotopax tire carrier but if I could do it all over again I would go with the ACE. Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK... UPDATED

Spare tire carrier would be my choice - safety factor and the whole matching tire/wheel combo thing. Then again, I rotate my spare with the rest of the tires so I'd say it depends on how you rotate tires. One of us is confused (probably me.) When I wrote "spare tire carrier/rear bumper" above...

Re: Finally replaced the Wrangler JK...

Have made some changes over the past few months... Replaced the factory wheels and tires with GY Duratracs (285/75/16, basically a 33") and aluminum 16" wheels. I had Duratracs on the last JK and I loved them. Pretty good offroad in mud and rocky terrain - and REALLY good on snowy roads. (I kept the...

I agree with Eugene. Your best bet is to find a deal on Craigslist or Ebay on a lightly used "real" bike. To keep it simple, you generally can't go wrong with any of the "Big 3" - Trek, Specialized, or Giant. The past couple years have seen a push in the industry from 26" bikes to 27.5" (650b) and 2...

Where do you live? If you live in an urban or rural area would effect my decision. As well as what type of climate? Is snow part of the equation? I live in a rural area with a lot of mountains/elevation changs and the roads are prone to washing out. Furthermore, there are seemingly endless dirt road...

Heh. It's like a boat(Break Out Another Thousand). There is no shortage of accessories that seem to be available for Wranglers. I found the first issue with Wranglers when we went to Costco. :) There is just not a lot of room in them. For aftermarket, check out Quadratec. Amazing selection of after...
