Re: My review of a Springfield XDS-4.0 .45ACP
I have one as well. I wasn't a big fan of the texture on the grip, so I got a rubber grip from talon grips to make it a bit less aggressive. I'm a bit surprised that you don't like the trigger, but I can't remember if it took a while to break in. It seems like a tiny plastic 45 should be a pain in t...

Re: Army to Seek More Powerful Pistol
The primary purpose of a sidearm is as a statutory symbol, secondarily it's issued to people carrying crew-served weapons, medics, or other personnel for whom a full-sized rifle or carbine is unwieldy or cumbersome. Both could be done by issuing an actual PDW in a PDW caliber. Everyone who needs a ...

Re: Retired Army General calls for new rifle
It doesn't really matter what 'caliber upgrade' you go with if the vast majority of service personnel never train beyond 300m (and the bulk of those that do only do so at known-distance ranges). Simply changing a caliber doesn't improve employment or training. So what? It is still a more capable ro...

Re: Retired Army General calls for new rifle
I could see pitching a new rifle based on some new functionality that made it better, but the M4 doesn't suck. It kills people just fine.

nope it's just one of these http://para-usa.com/2013/firearms/expert/expertCommander.php it's from their entry level line. Re: SRD; defend this. please.
This is one of those things that makes crazy people like us flip out, but probably isn't really a big deal. The odds of getting into a gunfight in your house are pretty damn slim, and the marginal difference between the rack / no rack probably gets a lot more play than it deserves. If it makes them ...

Re: Weird question...
Not really within the confines of the original post, but what about going with a gun that caters to her concerns of a ND? Would a HK P7 make you both happy? I totally get her concern, so I tend to prefer carry guns with super heavy triggers or additional grip safeties. Also, second on the pepper spr...

Quick question for y'all: is there a website where I can keep up with new firearm releases and cool accessories without all of the tremendous bullshit that tends to accompany that sort of information (I'm looking at you TTAG)?

I'd add that the cost of your self defense weapon of choice shouldn't leave you so broke that you can't afford decent locks, an alarm system, outdoor lighting, and all of the other stuff. I'd rather have a keltec 380 and master security doors than a supressed sbr and a door without a deadbolt.

If you have the money, there is really no reason not to have armor. Hell, most of us have a dozen or more firearms. If you've got the money for a 5th AR, then why not pick up some armor? Currently I've got an IBAish vest with IIIA soft armor and ceramic plates. At some point I'd like to grab someth...

As a Cane Corso owner, I feel obligated to say that they are great dogs. They are a bit of a handful, but they are bred to be protectors and not to be aggressive. My dog outweighs my wife, but we both trust him implicitly. I have heard that they are great dogs with lots of energy and like to run. Y...

The tough part would be eye pro vs gas mask for protection. I have a gas mask in the attic somewhere, but I don't think they offer a whole lot of protection from shrapnel.

Considering that the website you linked said that nerf guns, airsoft guns, and pretty much everything else is not permitted, I'd say that real guns are not a good idea.

Re: BAE Caiman MRAP: info needed
Those armored F250 quad cabs that contractors in Iraq roll in would have made a more fun cop truck. MRAPs are not super fun vehicles. I was pretty nervous every time I drove one. It wasn't all that hard to drive, but the bumpers attract everything.

Re: Things Headed South in Iraq
I saw balad and Taji right before we left. Balad is a pretty solid fortress with ditches, fences, towers, blast walls, etc. Taji sits right next to a major highway and is protected by a shitty cinder lock wall. If nothing has changed, there are lots of little forts and compounds inside of Balad. If ...

Re: Blessed weapons- guns only or ammunition too?
An ancient preacher from the backwoods, turned NG chaplain, used to bless my convoys every night before we left Taji. I err toward the atheist side of the coin, but I do remember him specifically mentioning the soldiers, the trucks, and the weapons. I can't specifically say that it helped, but it di...

Ares Armor has their NiB BCG's on sale for 115 bucks again. I finally caved, which means I HAVE to build a new AR around my old phosphate BCG and a lower I bought in 2008. I mean I pretty much have to. Yeah, I have an extra fore grip right now. It pretty much requires that I build a new gun for it.

I run with guns a lot. .... Thanks. Both those are great posts with a lot of good information and experience. I will certainly pass all that along. I think she is running 5-6 miles right now, but I think that might be partly due to daylight time constraints. A flashlight is a really good idea, as i...
