Re: Decent 2 meter rig for $100?
My experience is of the Chinese radios the Wouxun is better than the Baofeng. In my group of friends everyone of the Baofengs failed with moderate use. The Wouxuns are also easier to program not that they are as easy as a Icom. One thing about the Wouxun is the speaker mike sucks. Our SAR group has ...

Re: Any D-STAR fans?
Okay well I went to the dark side. Just got an Icom 92ad. Military grade and submersible. Just started playing with D-Star. Got the local repeater and have been approved for connecting to other reflectors. Just have not figured out how to yet.

Re: Any D-STAR fans?
I think that is a great point and kind of what I was thinking as well. The whole idea of ham radio is that it is robust and works when everything else fails. Our Skywarn group uses two repeaters and a simplex frequency for the weekly test. One repeater is north of town and one is south.

I have a buddy who is a huge d-star fan. He is putting in a repeater at his house. I am just not ready to buy a new radio yet.

Re: Michigan Hams on 2m
Let me know if you can hit that repeater. They don't like people rag chewing too much on the links because it ties up all of them but we could get away with 15 minutes or so. We may get others to jump in and can educate those who don't know about this site and what we do.

Re: Michigan Hams on 2m
Here is the IRA Linked repeater system web site so you can get an idea of the coverage. Hit one and it is linked and re-transmitted to all of them. http://www.w8hvg.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Rebel you can hook up a nice roof mount antenna on your HT. I have a UV6 and the ot...

Re: Michigan Hams on 2m
Well that is too bad. I built one of these J-pole antennas for cheap and it works very well. http://eastalabamaarc.com/2m70cm_jpole_project.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The down side is the cable needed for UHF/VHF is expensive if you are running it more than 25 feet or so. Can you guys hit the Jackson IRA repeater at 145.47 using a 100.0 or 107.2 Hz tone? Standard offset. If you guys can hit that one we can do a net.

Re: Considering a Double Action .357
I'm a fan of the SP101 with a 3 or 4 inch barrel for a trail gun. It is light and fairly small. Most of the time I am packing a Airweight 38 snubnose but the black bears in our area are not what you would call problematic. They get hunted and will avoid you at all cost. For target practice or huntin...

Re: Earl - Backcountry Survival Tablet
Don't I all ready have one of those? An iPhone with a Goal Zero solar charger? I wonder how well it is thought out. Being a ham I like the idea of a radio but in a package like that it would not be very practical. Maybe 5 watts? HF? Not without one heck of an antenna to drag around with it. More use...

Tarps are fine if there is no driving rain, mosquitoes, or ticks. I have a Big Anges Fly Creek UL that is 3 pounds but I'm getting one of the 6 Moons tents that is 23 ounces.

I just bought 500 rounds of 9mm for $175 at a local Cabella's. We have just about everything back now. We can get just about any firearm. 9mm ammo is more rare but available if you keep your eyes open and look often. The one thing I have not seen is 22 LR.

Just to toss it out there my favorite pack is the ULA Circuit. Yes I got the camo one so I looked as cool as I was comfortable. I did not mention it because it is out of your price range but worth every penny.

Go to google images and look at some pictures of people wearing ALICE and ILBE packs. Now look at some pictures of people wearing current manufacture civilian packs. Notice how the mi...

What size bag do you need? Without that it is a shot in the dark for suggestions. I can do three days in summer on a 25 liter bag but not everyone can do that.

There are plenty of cheap lift kits for the S10 if ground clearance is a concern.

.22 ammo is not as cheap as it used to be - and it has been among the first things to dissapear on both ammo shortages. I dont really see a world of difference between starting with a 22 over a 9mm at this point. You might be right depending on prices when all this silliness stops. Eventually peopl...

LOL We can't show you the actual technology or we would have to kill you but here is a mock up of what it looks like. If that is exactly what it looks like then why can't they show the actual technology at work? If it was really that secret they would not be able to even admit it existed like area 51.
