Re: What was your first pistol?
Bulgarian Makarov PM, in 9x18 Makarov. I bought it on my 21st birthday, though at the time you still had to apply for a permit from the city and county... Ugh, any other STL'ians remember that sh!t? Anywho, I still have the pistol, and I hope to pass it on to my children one day. That said, I had in...

Re: Show and Tell thread, Longarm edition
About a year ago I posted a picture of my Zastava LK M70, chambered in .30-06 Springfield, in this same discussion. In the old picture, had just finished the stock and zeroed an inexpensive Bushnell scope on the rifle I affectionately call "Edelweiss." I chose the name as this rifle uses a modern pr...

Re: The All Purpose AK Thread
As of today, is there any consensus as to what the best AK (or top few) is on the market? I don't mean a custom gun like a Fuller either. Just a regular AK you can buy off the proverbial shelf. Anything DDI Anything Arsenal WASR (metallurgy is all pretty good. Recent ones have better fit/finish) O-...

Re: How long do cigarettes last in original packaging?
It depends largely on how they're stored. A carton stored inside of the trunk of a leaky, rusty 1988 Honda Accord here in STL probably wouldn't last much more than a year before they started to taste really bad, regardless what measures were taken to waterproof it. However, if they're stored somewhe...

http://image.wikifoundry.com/image/3/bf32cb7f9581e167271d572a582d8ad7 I recently purchased a Vortex StrikeFire II, the "bright red" model, Vortex SKU: SF-BR-503. It's a pretty nice red dot. It's BRIGHT, like unnecessarily bright: the medium setting is way more than is necessary. When the brightness...

I found that mine shoots everything, provided it doesn't have an aluminum rim. The extractor simply rips its way off the rim, requiring the manual extraction of the...

Re: LONG term powered vehicle lifespan?
Donkey cart. What, it's as much a powered vehicle as a sail car. Steam is hard to get useable work out of unless you have access to relatively well-developed machining processes, and it's pretty fuel intensive. Fortunately for him, he's not asking how to make one from scratch...just what would last...

Re: A sudden event or slow decay over time?
I don't know, but it seems like people - both individually and collectively - are going off the rails with greater frequency and intensity these days. Fear sells. The rate of school shootings has mostly remained the same, but now we hear about all of them because they make god headlines. There's al...

Re: A sudden event or slow decay over time?
A combination of both, working together. We're currently experiencing - witnessing, even - the slow decay of our society. Flip on the tube and watch increasing crime rates, high levels of unemployment, the rich staying wealthy (or even gaining in wealth and power) while the poor becomes poorer, conf...

Re: All Purpose Optics and Mounts Thread
Yeah, PA is pretty well vetted at this point, as is the Burris microdot clone. The newest version purports Aimpoint battery life for half the price of an H1, and the older one has Eotech-like battery life at $80 if you catch them on sale. I'd hang on for a sale, which I would expect in two weeks, g...

Re: All Purpose Optics and Mounts Thread
I've been considering getting a Primary Arms MD-ADS, to mount on a M.I. AK Mini Dot Mount, for my WASR-10. It's a range toy, not a duty rig, so I'm not super concerned about durability. That said, I'm not wanting to throw money away on garbage either. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with ...

I'm going to rewrite your post, mostly to interject some humor but also to share my opinion. My edits will be in bold. Regards, LJ126 my original post was very much tongue in cheek, unsure if you are parodying me or the context. It wasn't directed at you at all; I was spring-boarding off your post ...

Re: How many rifle magazines for a get-home kit?
I don't share the perception that a random person armed with a pistol is any friendlier than a random person armed with a rifle. I'm not saying that they're any friendlier, but that the mental leap to a responder being off-duty cop or lawfully armed CCW holder is easier when they're carrying a hand...

Re: How many rifle magazines for a get-home kit?
This is a bit off-title for said thread, but I believe is a vital consideration for this topic. Do what you're going to do regarding your trunk gun (I implore you to store the weapon and your vehicle very securely, and don't talk about it with anyone), but consider every angle first. I'll keep this...

Re: What's the furthest you've traveled on foot in a day?
Back when I first got into private security some years ago, I was assigned to work this ridiculously large manufacturing facility in North City STL. 14 hour shifts, two hourly foot patrols, zigzagging through the building, up and down stairs, and during the second half of the shift, outside the peri...

Re: How \ Where do you store your magazines?
I have a Blackhawk! Chest Rig with 8 AR PMAGs, and a B.F.G. bandolier with six USGI mags. The bandolier is stored on top of the safe, with the majority of my ammunition, and the chest rig is staged in the master closet. There are two AK PMAGs that ride in the center console of the XTerra (just in ca...

Re: Tobacco and the Apocalypse
As a trading and bargaining tool post-Apocalypse, I see tobacco as being nearly as valuable as ammunition. People will want it, without doubt. Having a way to help people use it will also be valuable. For that end, I'm on board; I'd consider learning to grow and prepare it. That said, I would like t...

Ditto to what LJ126 said ...one guy "could not remember" if he had left his gun in the car or not and one guy was a..... not a LEO but someone who really, really should have known better than to leave a gun in his vehicle unattended. Please don't tell me he was a park ranger. That's some shit that ...
