Re: There are No Rules in a Gunfight

You are right. It's not that uncommon. I have to say, I haven't been shot at since immigrating to the US. Had plenty of incidents in Africa though.
Everyone laughs at a .22 derringer until it's barrel is making an imprint on the side of your head...just sayin'.

Re: Kind of diggin' Paul Harrell on youtube.

Ah, okay! The way you referenced him (Paul) and his videos while talking about going on a killing spree, and the talking about him snapping, made it seem like you thought he had. As far as him being charged, yes, I could see it. His wife had their own pickup truck between her and the other vehicle....

Re: Kind of diggin' Paul Harrell on youtube.

I think he states in one of his videos that he is a former Marine and Army vet. Not sure of combat experience but there is this https://www.wallowa.com/news/harrell-freed-of-manslaughter-charges-in-troy-shooting/article_b148a9a9-2280-5ca8-968f-3e7a84fcdc1a.html Now that is interesting. Re: Arsenal 107 vs DSA FAL voyager?

Update: I went with niether, instead I bought 2k of ammo and some mags. The FAL was just to heavy for what I wanted and the AK while nice, meant investing in another caliber. That was an extremely smart move, I think. I discovered a tote in the barn with 20 Magpul mags and 20 Glock 9mm magazines (1...

Re: There are No Rules in a Gunfight

Not sure why I'm seeing these old threads, but figured this is interesting enough to resurrect...
There are no universal rules in a gun fight. There are only rules that YOU decide to follow.
1. The 4 rules of firearm safety
2. Overwhelming force of violence. Shoot to win. Fight for your life.

Re: Burris MTAC 1-4X24

I have a Primary Arms 1-4 in a PEPR mount. The glass isn't that great, but it does fine for around the property work and hunting. Runs through a battery pretty quick though. I'm saving up for a Accupoint 1-4 or TA33..that's a lot of saving...dang. The glass on the accupoint is fantastic. You can pic...

Re: Kind of diggin' Paul Harrell on youtube.

I enjoy Paul's videos. As mentioned, the common sense factor makes it worth while. He's got quite a bit of experience, if I'm not mistaken. Some military and some LEO?

I don't have any experience with 30-30, but looking at paper, you could do a helluva lot worse! Especially with the Hornady stuff. It's a thumper for sure.

Saw a demonstration of the Liberator. The shooter could not hit a silhouette at 10'.
Accurate, it was not...but that's not what it was designed for. I posted it, mostly because of its intended purpose...to acquire a better weapon - but that's not very CoC compliant

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

Now you've got me thinking I should have picked up that case of Federal Flite Control 00 instead of the S&B 00 that I did buy. Still, the S&B gives reasonably good results at the ranges I'm likely to be shooting it (0-25yds). Spread is about 3' at 25yds and that's not all that horrible for home def...

I'd consider a Ruger Blackhawk convertible in .357/.38/9mm

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

Agreed...it would not be for a novice. 410 is nothing to sneeze at though. We've taken a few foxes with our ancient 410. 2 of them were at 35 yards or more. I know the one I clocked was at 45 yards. 000 Buck 3" shell. Still almost no recoil. Lookedlike someone clocked that fox over the head with a s...

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

I second this! Thanks for this information. I'm currently using Remington 00 Buck, which I've patterned and found acceptable for the distances I expect. I've also tried the Federal FliteControl. The tighter groupings were really, really impressive. I can understand why you'd never want to use anyth...

Re: Arsenal 107 vs DSA FAL voyager?

I'm a bit biased towards the FAL. I'd go with the FAL, but it's more of an emotional decision.
The Arsenal is a fine firearm and the platform is more efficient -7.62 nato is a bit overkill in most of the US.

South Africa. There is a whole other problem set there. Thank you for your insights. Without any working knowledge of the area at all I would think that a bolt action rifle in a .30-06 or larger (some big game caliber) caliber would be a requirement. But I have never been there, The chances of runn...

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

Excellent info! Thanks! I do think people must consider the ranges they expect to use their weapon. My plans are for 10 yards and in, for apartment defense, so I'm ok with cheap walmart 00 Buck and Fiocchi low recoil. But as I start using my shotgun for 50 state travel, I expect I"ll need to look m...

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

I attended a "Combat shotgun" class about a year or so ago. I ran my wood stocked Mossberg 500. Other guys in the class had everything from Benelli's to an old 1897! My mossberg was outfitted: Wood stock 18.5" barrel with bead sight - cylinder bore 5 round magazine tube with no extension Surefire G2...

Re: Anyone have experience with 5.56 AKs?

I have seen AK's in terrible condition and they still fired. They were chambered in 7.62 though. That tapered case has a lot to do with the AK's reliability. Then add to that, the fact that AK's are heavily over gassed and you have a gun that will cycle yogurt... .223 AK's are interesting and if any...

Thanks Woodsghost! Always glad to share what very little knowledge I have
I browsed the boards on my phone using that Tapatalk app - and that got messed up, so I ended up not getting here as often. Decided to just access the forums using my PC, since I'm working from home tonight.

Re: Responsibility and Accountability in a SHTF Situation

I'l relate a short story... South Africa has deteriorated since the advent of "democracy". Infrastructure is not what it used to be and emergency services are really lacking. Average response time for police is usually dismal, especially on farms (where some of the worst crimes are committed). Aroun...
