Re: COVID-19 Chat Thread

Things are getting weird in Kansas City... Penguins from the zoo visited the Nelson-Atkins art museum. They seemed to prefer Caravaggio more than Monet.

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

Stay at home expires in Kansas midnight Sunday. My boss called yesterday and wife's boss told her today. Back to work Monday. I'm in that little piece of Kansas that is still under a stay at home order for another week. My employer is working on a phased approach to bring people back to the office....

Re: What WILL/DID you do with that stimulus check?

I got mine yesterday, but not from the government...

Like many others, my auto insurance company decided to refund some of my premiums. Since I haven't been driving to & from work for 6 weeks and won't for a total of at least 11 weeks... they refunded about 2.5 weeks of premiums.

Re: COVID-19 Chat Thread

Do Americans not understand how masks work? Every night on the news I see multiple people -- both reporters and just regular people -- walking around in public with a mask pulled down to cover their neck, not their mouth and nose.

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

One thing to bear in mind about the US death figures. The .gov announced that anyone who dies and tests positive for COVID-19 will be assumed to have died from the virus. So that for instance someone with an end stage terminal illness who dies with the virus, the cause of death will be COVID-19. Th...

Re: COVID-19 Chat Thread

If we reach that point some people are going to have to make some really hard choices regarding who gets the vaccine first. Do you give it to those most at risk (people less likely to be part of the workforce) or do you give it to returning workers to try and get the economy and supply trains going...

Hey: 1st off, what does the highlighted part mean?
Sounds like he's figuring out a way to wire in an external audio source ("auxiliary input") into the radio / control head of his wife's car.

My project: working on writing my second book.

Re: What WILL you do with that stimulus check?

I've been waiting for a downturn to rebuild my cottage (with a huge pantry!). I think the economy will be bad enough after this to finally be able to get tradesmen to show up at a reasonable price. So I'm packing money away. That's one of the reasons I haven't built on my land yet--the economy has ...

Re: COVID-19 Thread

Anyone else live alone and find themselves working from home for the first time? It's an odd experience; hours stretching into days without human contact... My employer normally has a very strict "no-work-from-home" policy but when they relaxed it about two weeks ago I started working from home. Go...

Re: Any Newbies Here Because of Coronavirus?

I doubt there will be any new people... how could people even find out about ZS and know what it's about? The home page has been basically blank (four lines) for... months? ...years now? And not one of those four lines mentions preparedness. I've been here for about 8 years, and only learned about Z...

Re: COVID-19 Thread

It's interesting watching news reports about people reacting to "social distancing" and staying home all. They're acting like it's weird or unnatural. I'm like, "What's changed? This is my normal life." My employer relaxed its "no-work-from-home" policy, at least through the end of this month, so I'...

Re: COVID-19 Thread

Large scale drive through testing is being set up and I expect the number of confirmed cases to spike. This is logical and should be expected but I expect significant negative impacts on the psychology of the population as a result, since it will give the impression of a massive increase as opposed...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

About two weeks ago I made a prediction in this thread about how things would look in two weeks. How did I do? ... In the data so far, the lag has been pretty consistent: the number of known outcomes was approximately the total number of cases from two weeks prior. If that trend holds, in about two ...

... I watch read and one other to see what rational people are thinking of, and "the other" has devolved into two factions, one side saying "this is bad" and the other side saying "it's no big deal" and the post count is exploding along those lines. Not necessarily bashing on here but in the media in general, it seems like Italy is being portrayed as Europe's own 3rd world country. Northern Italy is actually one of the richest regions in the EU and their hospitals and medical staff some of the best in the world. This of course is entirely my o...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

In U S 959 cases , 28 dead . No doubt top a thousand by tomorrow. 2.9% mortality to date. Likely lower due to many undiagnosed cases. And 8 recovered. Using that same kind of math that's a 0.8% recovery rate, much worse than influenza's 99.9% recovery rate. That's why I argue that that kind of math...
