Re: Prepping a Sig 1911 for carry... update: new barrel

Saw a genuine Sig 1911 threaded barrel on sale at Midway, so went ahead and pulled the trigger: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-Zq6wqqg/0/474f5cbb/XL/i-Zq6wqqg-XL.jpg Quite a bit longer than stock, so at the very least will have to modify the kydex holster this one usually sits in. https://photo...

Re: New upper for an old rifle

Great advice...and well said. Any other kid...including me at his age...and I’d have concerns. He’s about the most sober (classic meaning, not beverage inference) and mature kid I know. Helps that he’s in a fraternity that eschews alcohol (his pick, not mine) and in fact will turn you out if you get...

New upper for an old rifle

Now that we bought a second house out West where our son is going to college (cheaper than renting or even the dorms), he’ll be taking a couple long arms to go in the safe we’re installing there (our old closet safe) once renovations are complete and all the workers are long gone. He’ll be taking hi...

Though I much prefer your fat bike tire, maybe push the easy button?

Or rig some way to connect the cart stem or bars to the bike’s rear axle?

Re: Building a Bug Out Cart for fun and profit

You may have to drill and tap new threads on one side or the other, but if the bar clamp on the tagalong and your single-wheel “cart” are the same inner diameter, just use the fixed clamp half from the tagalong and the cap from the other...maybe a simple piece of drilled and tapped flat stock (or ju...

Re: The Dead at Destitute Mountain

That was awesome! Ironically, got to get started on it today in the waiting room at a follow up appointment for my unscheduled “vacation” a couple weeks ago...just finished. Very nice update! I was hoping that something like that would happen...and surmised it would be Voletta. Maybe Liam’s dad or b...

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

Damn, man. So glad you're okay! Thanks! Me too! Glad you are ok, bud. Been there, done that. For the next 6 month pay attention to your body messages. Reason I say this is my stints kept collapsing. They tried twice more to reopen them, nope. Double bypass was the solution. Oh, and the hair w...

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

Just wrapping up three days of prepping for the rest of my life... About to be discharged, but came into The hospital ER early Wednesday morning with what I thought was really (really) bad heartburn that had been bothering me all day Tuesday at work. My wife tried me to go in, but like a stubborn ja...

Re: The Dead at Destitute Mountain

Any chance for an update? Pretty please? About had a heart attack when the board was down the last couple of days when I realized I had no way of seeing this story continue (hopefully never finished!)...got by with a new story from Mother Hen (Kathy in FL) over on timebomb2K, but caught up way too q...

Re: JeeperCreeper wants to move. Help him.

Florida or Texas for taxes and plenty of work. Born and raised in FL, but Tx is my home now, and I feel a lot more comfortable here for some reason if everything goes sideways. Nice to be somewhere that’s pretty much ready to self-govern anyway, and has the infrastructure/resources to operate somewh...

Re: Firearms Chat 5: #pewpewlife

Not really a “stock up while you can” type of opportunity since it’s limited to one per household, but if you feel the need to have a good quality spare lower, it’s not going to get any cheaper than this. $49.99 for a stripped lower, one day only sale: http://www.primaryarms.com/aero-precision-strip...

Re: AR15 for Hunting: Different Calibers

Big fan of 300BLK and shoot that more than anything else...by far...so I certainly won’t try to talk you out of a 300BLK rifle or upper. Easy to tune for your needs and a very versatile round inside its performance envelope. Just remember that it’s not a do everything round, or at least not as a sin...

Re: AR15 for Hunting: Different Calibers

Well, there is another option: an AR- 10 . Pros: Wide ammo availability and selection, heavy hitter Cons: cost of the rifle Second this. I love my ARs...all of them...especially my 300 BLK uppers/guns. But if I had to have just one to guarantee I’m bringing home meat for the table, I’d go with a re...

Pmags at $9.99! Stack 'em deep! Re: Aereus Rex

Did you notice what they said about the lacquer coated ammo? No effect. And Steelcase ammo, gets stuck. But nothing at the rate you were suffering. The other thing is the powder burn curve. According to the article the powder burn on the ammo tested was 'fast' [except federal]. That causes a higher...

Re: Aereus Rex

^ thanks for that...hadn’t considered extractor float as a potential issue. I’d think the adjustable gas block would mitigate that, but will have to ponder it a bit. I had considered the few incomplete extractions as a potential ejector issue though. Eyeballing a KAK industries dual ejector bolt for...

Interesting statement from Springfield

Putting this here in case conversations go sideways (please don’t y’all) and a mod has to punt... I won’t get into the root cause(s), but believe it’s OK to state that I agree with Springfield Armory and go out of my way to avoid Dick’s sporting goods even though it’s closer than Academy Sports, Cab...

Re: Aereus Rex

Success? Went in and put 3 rounds downrange. Two in the x-ring and one flyer low/left...guess my proclivity to not get my finger square on the trigger is creeping back in...pushing the barrel left while pulling the trigger. Must need more range time! Regardless, no apparent issues so let’s proceed! ...
