How many people do you have living in your home? If you have two, this might last two months if you're *really* careful. It looks great!

Re: What size of generator?

Thank you Wee and Raptor! You have been a wealth of information! Thank you again!

It appears that to run my basic stuff, I need 24,000 watts. I guess I need to cut back a little.

What size of generator?

Hi, ZS. I'm toying with the idea of getting a generator. I'd like something strong enough to run a heat pump, refrigerator, computer, well water pump, and a few lights.

Now that I write this down, it seems like I'm asking to power a lot. :vmad:

What size of generator should I get?

Re: Snowy and Frigid 2012/2013 Winter

Thanks to the mountainous terrain 'round these parts, if it snows pretty hard, you're on your own and probably not going anywhere.

I've been thinking of getting a generator, but they're not cheap.

Re: If Iran Nukes Israel? and Israel Retaliates....

A more likely scenario is a tit for tat nuclear exchange, for instance Tehran for Tel Aviv. I know for a fact, and in some cases personally, that there are a LOOOOOOOOOT of people in Tehran that like America, don't have any kind of beef with Israel, and want to not be radioactive. A majority, actua...

Snowy and Frigid 2012/2013 Winter

Just about every mainstream climatologist out there is predicting a very snowy and frigid winter, similar to the winters of the late 1970s. Has anyone started to prepare yet? http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/combination-of-factors-could-m/36990" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false...

Re: Erik's Upgraded Drinking Water Storage w/Pics

Nice job Erik. I have one 55 gallon drum and I just got a small pallet from work I am going to put it on this afternoon. The drum is full so I might have some trouble getting it on the pallet. we will see. I found a guy on Craigslist.org selling drums. So for finding drums in your area that might b...

Re: Erik's Upgraded Drinking Water Storage w/Pics

A quarter cup of bleach will disinfect water for years. As I moved into a new house, I emptied the barrels and refilled them again. Just before I emptied the barrels for moving, I tasted the water and it was just fine. There were no signs of bacterial infestation (water not cloudy, sides of the barr...

Re: PAW Supply Closet

Thanks for mentioning the water. Your intentions are good. If you look at my signature, one of the links is to my water storage. I have about 500 gallons of stored water, most of it in plastic food-grade 55 gallon barrels. The gallon milk jugs do indeed break over time and will develop pinhole leaks...

Re: building a prep room

I'm in too much of a hurry to read the other replies, but:

1) Don't punch holes into the concrete. Drill holes.
2) Concrete is heavy. If this room isn't going to be in your basement, it may be too heavy for your floors.

Re: Indiana (Hoosiers), let's talk

I got out of South Bend because the people there were uniquely nuts. It does not surprise me to see that I have never seen a preparedness person from there on this board, but maybe I just missed them. The wife and I left that town and we won't be back to live there.

Re: what cheap handguns do you have a high opinion off?

I have never seen a Glock for under $300. I saw one for exactly $300 once, three years ago, but never for under $300.

*Edit* I just checked the Glocks on Gunbroker and did not find any that were anywhere near the $2xx range.

Re: The Official ZS DEBTSQUAD: BODY COUNT thread.

In 2005, the wife and I were knee-deep in debt. We had a new car payment of nearly $400, about $18,000 in credit card debt, student loans, various other debt, and a $1500 house payment ($175,000 house witha BAD interest rate). Additionally, I lived a full hour from my job and it cost us a fortune in...
