Re: Global Cooling will kill us all!

No, I don't think the title of expert makes you a dunce, if that is what you are implying. However, remember the hole in the ozone? How hairspray and refrigerants were going to scorch us all? Turns out the hole in the ozone was a perfectly naturally phenomenon brought on by fluctuations in the Earth...

Re: Global Cooling will kill us all!

I won't pretend to have read this entire thread, but I have heard " We all gonna die!" so many times it's hard to take seriously. Invariably, it is at least hinted that humanity is to blame, if not blamed outright, and shortly thereafter doomsday passes uneventfully. I don't doubt that the climate i...

Ruger GP100. Total workhorse. Dead bang reliable. Great big buck and roar. Zombies go splat.

Re: Prolonged frozen storage?

Eight month winter? Ouch. Well, I have one frozen storage suggestion. Before mechanical refrigeration ice was the primary refrigerant. Blocks of ice were cut in winter and stored in sawdust well into summer, at latitudes more forgiving than yours. Instead of canned food why not simply frozen food? I...

Re: Water storage freezing?

I live in Missouri. It most likely will freeze. I guess I'm just wondering how big of a deal freezing may be. I've lived in Missouri and the winters are typically pretty mild, at least in my experience. If, and its a big if, you can find a spot to dig that isn't mostly rock you might consider diggi...

Re: "Collapse"- has anyone seen it?

Despite the fact that Mr. Ruppert brought up some excellent points and produced serious food for thought, one should take what he says with a grain of salt. He has demonstrated himself to be wingnut with a dangerous ego and has a penchant for inventing his "facts". His predictions fail with the regu...

Re: WWYD If you had 6 acres and limited funds...

Fair enough. I was speaking as someone who has a terrible habit of over-extending themselves. I probably couldn't get six acres of land without trying to turn in into freaking Disneyland. That, and I have done enough rough living I personally wouldn't want to do it again unless I had to. He asked fo...

Re: WWYD If you had 6 acres and limited funds...

Given the amount of work it will take to develop the land, the trouble with basic living facilities, etc, I think he'll end up sacrificing his financial future for the sake of prepping. Prepping is pointless if can't even come up with a pot to piss in. One person only has so much time and energy. Or...

Full-time student without a full-time job? I wouldn't touch that deal with a ten meter cattle prod. You will be better off investing your full attention and energy to your studies. Besides, I promise you will never forgive yourself for selling the Harley. Don't do it. You can find better options tha...

Re: what type of zombies do you think are most possible

I voted for ragers. Creepy, but as I sit here I can envision a rager-type phenomenon occurring because of cultural, economic, and environmental issues. Can anyone else see this as possible, or do I just really need a nap? Think of Knockout King or the riot de jour. Better still, think of the Malaysi...

Re: living fence/live fencing/growing hedge sustainable fenc

I didn't read the article listed, so pardon me if this is redundant. Honey locust was used regularly to produce hedgerows. It is relatively fast growing, tolerant of adverse conditions, and it produces layer after layer of five inch thorns that have been used as nails. It continues to be formidable ...

Re: tunneling/underground structures

On Amazon, there is a book called "The $50 Dollar and Up Underground House Book". It isn't at all as ridiculous as the title might suggest. Cheap and practical. It might have a few of the answers you are looking for.

No, I don't worry about the neighbors knowing I own. In fact, the neighbors are why I have a carry permit. I work for a major property owner in Indianapolis and live in one of his buildings. I have had my vehicles vandalized, my life and family threatened, etc, by people who people who took real off...

Re: what would it be like post SHTF? any benefits?

Showing how naive I likely am, probably makes for a lousy first post. However, apart from asteroids and assholes with access to the nuclear hammer, an actual apocalypse seems like a stretch. The "apocalypse" may happen too slow for anyone to really notice. As population climbs and energy reserves dw...
