Re: new-ish shooter looking for help with pistol technique

Grip wise, just give the gun a firm handshake. Not too hard but not too soft, just like you would shake another dudes hand. If you overgrip, you'll be able to tell after you put the gun down and you have an imprint of the handgrip on your palm. That can be bad sign. Then again, I know guys that grip...

Re: Bad habit, hitting high and left.

Weird. Could be your gun is just used to eating your (cheap) ammo you normally buy and with a healthier diet of good/better stuff it became more accurate (smaller groups).

Could definetly see a group shrinkage based on better ammo but lateral movement is odd.

Re: Becoming an Instructor

I got my start by going through the Coaches Course and PMI Course when I was still in the USMC. Of course, that alone doesn't mean shit in most LE organizations that I've worked for or with. I had to go through various agency specific courses just to teach firearms at the job. To me, the most valuab...

Re: My "Bud's" Glock 17 Gen 4 review

I just got my Glock 22 Gen 4 last week from them that I ordered on December 07, 2011. Initially, it was a 4-8 week wait time. On the 9th week, after hearing nothing from Glock, I called them twice a week and kept getting different answers. "We're waiting on this part or that part. It'll just be anot...

Re: Hey guys

For simple square range stuff, NRA Headquarters in Fairfax has a really nice range.

Also "The Range" down bewteen Stafford and Fredericksburg on Route 1 is an option. They used to host IDPA matches on Wednesday nights a few years ago. Don't know if they still do.

Re: GLOCK .40 Brass bulges after shooting

Edit: Im aware of Glock .40's having some issues with bullets exploding, can someone explain whats exactly wrong with them? cause will link this to buddy and give him more shit for getting a .40 when he could have bought a 10MM I know we got a safety bulletin a couple of years ago when there was an...

Re: GLOCK .40 Brass bulges after shooting

I'm assuming the brass bulging is before firing it through the gun? Does it chamber ok with no assistance? I'm having trouble envisioning how it would properly seat itself if it was bulging prior to chambering the round. I've seen .223 handloads for my AR do this and they don't let the bolt seat pro...

Re: Training regimen

Don't hold off. Doesn't matter what platform you think you may or may not want, the basics are still the same, regardless. Spend a weekend and at least get the basic fundamentals down with someone who knows about pistol shooting and can tell you what you may be doing right or wrong. Pistol craft can...

Re: Training regimen

As suggested, seek professional instruction first before you travel further down the road. Check and see if there are any bulletin boards around your range. Most local instructors will put up some contact info for you to find and get in touch with. If that doesn't work, check with the NRA and see if...

Re: Shooting Tips from the Marine Corps' Best

Its gonna be a long hard, road before you see anything pushed out to the PMI's and the range coaches at Pendelton or LeJuene. I don't even think that the initial rifle training done at MCRD or PI necessarily needs to focus on any high-speed tactical use of a rifle/carbine. I don't think they should...

Re: Shooting Tips from the Marine Corps' Best

I know when I was still in and stationed at the Quantico ranges, we were in the early development stages of working up a new combat pistol course and doing the accuracy testing on the M-4 but that was '02. By the time it hit the streets, some of the drills in the pistol course were already outdated ...

I know one of my scout kids just finished up his EMT cert down in my area. I'm pretty sure the county paid for it but he has to do a minimum number of years as a local volunteer to pay back his time.

Re: Bad habit, hitting high and left.

In addition to the above mentioned tips, check the position of your finger on the trigger. With some pistols, your finger just falls naturally where it should on the trigger, somewhere between the tip of your index finger and the joint. In other cases, especially with some of the single stacked pist...

Hello from VA

New member here. I've been a long time fan of preparedness but didn't know about this community until I saw the show on History. I'm a Police Instructor working in DC and living in Fredericksburg, VA, (yeah, I make that commute). Spent my youth running around with Uncle Sam's Misguided Children as a...
