Re: Emergency Radio failed me during storm. Need suggestions

I bought that same Midland model ER102 for my parents in the spring this year. I'll funtion test it when I think about it and I know they have used it twice so far with no problems at all. Like anything else though, some times we get lucky and sometimes we get lemons. Good luck with your next purch...

So. Good method for killing bacteria and viruses is boiling and distilling. So is the only good way of removing chemicals from water a store bought filter? Is the best improvised method of removing chemicals charcoal? That's a pretty good overall summary, yes. You may not have to worry about the ch...

Welcome to the ZS Joe! Your best bet it to try to get in touch with "magdelaina"! The rumor is that they (the Fayetteville area) are active in real life but not so much on the forums :? The rest of us here are scattered out too much to be active in RL and just lurk the forums  Good Luck and ma...

The Shameless Plug

I havn't been on ZS for awhile (few weeks) but wanted to give another shout out to the few Ar. members here. Since being a member of ZS I've started small steps of getting "prepped", like setting up a BOB and small kits for the car and whatnot. A larger step I took a couple months ago was taking the...

Re: Long term storage - Booze

Maker's Mark Whiskey uses wax (I think it's wax) to seal in the freshness. you could either buy Maker's Mark Whiskey, or use the wax sealing method on whatever you do buy. That's a really good idea, actually - and i think it is wax of some sort that they use on their bottles. <snip> Still, I would ...

Re: Long term storage - Booze

You also might consider buying the airplane sized bottles. Trade for a can or two of soup, a few rolls of TP or a mag of ammo. Kinda like the post SHTF dollar bill. Now I have seen those dry up (unopened) after a very long time of attic storage :gonk: Probably the plastic. How long was the attic st...

Re: Long term storage - Booze

I would stay away from all liqueurs because of the flavorings, creams, sugars, added colors and whatnot may not hold as long during storage and would prolly taste like crap if not make you sick. Hard liquors on the other hand would store for a very very long time in glass bottles in a cool dry place...

Re: Food in your BOB, is it needed?

This thread is horseshit. The OP has changed his tune so many times, I'm not even sure what song is playing anymore. Originally, OP said, "...why carry food? I'll hunt and fish." (paraphrased from second post) Now OP is saying, "...I have food in my BOV and I can use that in my assorted and sundry ...

Gentlemen, this is not an exercise. My family is popping smoke from our present AO and establishing a new base camp. After exhaustive recons and establishing cache site, the time nears to conduct our force march and take the new location by force. In other words... we bought a home, selling our old...

Re: Guy at the door says he's "looking for gas" with no gas

I'm not saying the guy wasn't shady......But how many people that do run out of gas have a "gas can" in their vehicle? Probably not very many. And that's probably why most gas stations (atleast in my AO) sell gas cans. ^^^This really is a good point :) Notifying the law is always a good thing (just...
