Re: Is there a crash course on body armor and ballistic helmets?

Given today's sad news, I think the risk of me trying to mind my own business but having trouble spring up around me is a lot higher than it was 24 hours ago. I'd like to have a set of armor and helmet for my wife and I to raise the resiliency of us attempting to get the hell out of dodge and away ...

Re: So, you want to buy some body armor but haven't a clue?

I think a serious question needs to be "what is your weight limit?" Do you want to strap on 20lbs of steel? And will stop most rifle bullets? Do you want to strap on 3lbs of Kevlar but it will only stop most pistol bullets and shotgun threats? Do you want to strap on maybe 6 lbs of rifle armor but ...

So, you want to buy some body armor but haven't a clue?

Okay, maybe I have a little bit of a clue, but I'm by no means current on the best deals, good/bad brands, etc. With a second round of stimulus checks being seriously discussed by our political critters in DC, and the prospect of unrest in the near future, body armor is looking like maybe a good ide...

My wife will have a fit but I'm considering body armor. $1,200 should be able to buy some protection for my fat ass.

So, it looks like a second round of checks may be distributed. What plans do you have for yours?

Well, counting from when the wife got home from Idaho (Sept 1) we're done with self-quarantine.
Yay! Now you can run amuck! ...Or at least get fresh veggies from the store.
Yes, we will place our entry in the First Annual ZS Muck Run, just as soon as we secure a muck to run.

Re: Hams in Space - UHF/VHF Cross band repeater on the ISS

I've made a single ISS contact a few years ago. Did it from the Eastern campus of the Naval Post Graduate school in WV when my wife was a student there and I came to visit. I used an FT-60 and Arrow handheld directional for the contact. Made my day and amazed some of her fellow students.

Re: Firearms CHAT: [insert chat title here]

Thanks to a buddy who used to be one of the range officers at Quantico, and who always seemed to have a few dozen cans in the bed of his pickup, I do not lack for cans of all shapes and sizes. I have most of my steel targets and hanging chains in a 20mm can, the majority of my ammo in .50 ...

Re: Good loaded mag grab & go storage?

So, I bought two different mag holders from Midway: The 12 mag holder RickOShea suggested https://www.midwayusa.com/product/939360569?pid=360569 (charcoal was the only color in stock) And an 8 mag holder that I found in their catalog https://www.midwayusa.com/product/939488989?pid=488989 So far I'm ...

Re: The State of Oregon is on Fire

Have a plan for animals in a fire . - Lots of people struggling to move animals, but thankfully many volunteers are assisting and many people are prepping animals EARLY. Know what things to evacuate with. - From contacts in Salem area, I've heard a number of people forgot medications. After working...

Re: Asteroid Prep

On the 1st of September, a multi-story building size asteroid flew near the Earth. The approach was at 7 pm (GMT+3). An asteroid approached the planet at a distance of about 120 thousand kilometers. Just for comparison, the distance from the Moon to the Earth is 384,4 thousand kilometers. Could you...

Re: Climate change. World ends by 2050.

The end of the world may not come - but it is difficult not to admit that every year the situation is becoming more difficult. Without decisive action by 2050, the entire planet will feel the effects of climate change. If over the next 30 years we do not take measures to slow down the climate catas...

Re: What have you bought in the last 48 hours?(firearms related)

Three more surplus mags for my BM59. I'd only had two and wanted more but my only source in the past wanted $70 ea. for them. Then I found one with a mag pouch for $40 and bought it a few months back. Went looking today and it's like everyone is stocking them, even Gun Mag Warehouse, and at $40 or l...

one for M193 and one for M855 I'm curious about this, what is the thought process for using one over the other in any given situation? Personally my favorite for GI aluminum magazines is the 200rd SAW pouch; fits 12 magazines in an incredibly small footprint, only carries 8-10 pmags but they are ve...

Any other kit you want with those? I'm browsing some of the tactical rolling luggage options out there right now (5.11, maxpedition), maybe with wheels. Considering something to hold plate carriers, mags, and maybe long guns. Currently, I have a golf shoe bag set up with mags for all of my bug out ...

Obviously this is going to need careful investigation...

Not much. When the lockdowns first began I added 5,000 IU of D3 to my daily supplements to help make up for the lack of outdoor time but nothing else.
