Re: Glock barrels question.

Yeah but bare stainless looks sexy on a black Glock.... Sexy doesn't last as well and this is a PAW gun anyway. I've never had a problem with either stainless or nitride. But, nitride exposes the stainless after a couple range trips so it will need a light oil regardless This isn't just coloring, i...

I didnt realize people thought bugging out to Wal Mart was a good idea...lol...that is about as bright as the people who plan on storming Army bases for supplies. Depends on the type of Apoc... If there's a rapture like scenario where everyone disappears, that's where I'm going first. Then to the L...

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

My fiance is buying me an engagement present. I spent money on a ring so I get a gun. I'm thinking M9a1 for a future classic. Or maybe something useful like a Glock or M&P2.0. Or wildcard it. Let's chat about it. I think this is going to need its own topic. So mote it be! Now, I think we ...

Re: Guy in the middle of nowhere loses his BOV to fire?!!!

I dunno, I've seen some start from having a hot engine sitting over dead grass, and he meets both those things. Now it may have spread to something oil related after that... Actually he was parked on a dry dirt road. There was no grass on the road. And it definitely started at the firewall. I'm thi...

Re: Glock barrels question.

I need a conversion barrel for my Glock 32 in .357 SIG. Lone Wolf and Alpha Wolf (same company) make two barrels. One is SS and one is: Certified, stress relieved 416 stainless steel Button rifled, three stage honed bore Industry recognized SBN premium coating (SBN is Salt Bath Nitride, similar to ...

I dunno, I've seen some start from having a hot engine sitting over dead grass, and he meets both those things. Now it may have spread to something oil related after that... The catalytic converter is the usual cause for those. Federal regs used to mandate a heat shield on them to help mitigate tha...

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

I never knew it was that big of a pain to swap out mag followers on a Mossberg shotgun. It didn't used to be, and it's different on the 590s. On my original, there was to threadlock compound. Mossberg didn't start putting that until about 10-12 years ago, near as I can tell. No clue why though. The...

Re: Guy in the middle of nowhere loses his BOV to fire?!!!

Pretty sure that was posted in the jeep thread on ADVrider too...recall that it was a hydraulic leak onto the exhaust. Brake fluid or clutch...both the same really. Lemme check... Edit: no additional info...same video. Crazy. Good lesson about real prepping though. It’s about surviving life’s pitfa...

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

Just out of curiosity, why are you trying to remove the magazine tube, NT2C? The stock follower on these is plain sheet metal painted black. It's prone to rusting and binding in the tube, as well as being difficult to see in less than optimal lighting, which makes verifying the weapon is empty hard...

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

So, anyone have any pro tips for removing the magazine tube on the 500? Other than strip it down to receiver & tube and heat it with a heat gun until it lets go? Because I've been doing just that for the last half hour with a heat gun capable of 1,200 degrees and that bitch ain't coming off. Even tr...

Re: Atlantic tropics....

I'll be honest, printing out some local topos from National Geographic and using them to practice with my compass really paid off, as with no power, cell service, or internet, when I heard on the radio that everyone in a mile of the Cape Fear was being evacuated, I pulled the maps out of my compass...

Re: Guy in the middle of nowhere loses his BOV to fire?!!!

With so much battery powered a low voltage disconnect device would seem to be in order. http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsServices/Electrical/ProductsandServices/Transportationsolutions/PowerManagement/LowVoltageDisconnects/index.htm One of those built into a 12v outlet would be useful. I don't th...

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

It is a fun video, as are most videos that Ian and Karl do. I agree with their conclusions regarding the pistol grip but I would have liked to see a couple different stock choices, and I'd still like to find a decent folding stock for the Mossberg 500. Not for shooting with it folded, but for shorte...

I can't say that I remember him but at the same time if I saw his username I'd probably go, "Oh! Yeah him, I remember him!" We could always go comment on his videos and say ZS misses him. :)

Yeah, all the gear and preps we have in the vehicle are in a spot you cannot get to if there's no power. Ooopsie! I'm still not sure what to do about that. That problem (needing power to open anything) is actually pretty common in cars today. In a few cars getting locked in is possible. https://mcg...

Re: Mossberg 500 based home defense setup

As I'm thinking it through, I wonder if the ban states have created a bigger market for shotguns. Otherwise, l don't know why the 590 series would be any hotter now than, say, 5 years ago. We're heading into fall and the start of the hunting season, and while the 590A1 isn't a hunting gun this is t...

Meprolight M500 front night sight, NDZ red anodized magazine follower, NcStar Picatinny rail for the receiver to mount an RDS on at a future date, CDM Gear BMT mount, Streamlight TLR-1. All going on the Mossberg. Some stuff was ordered two days ago and arrived already, some was just ordered today. T...
