Re: Mud Slide in WA

Good to see the FEMA USAR TF on scene. Decent resources being used...but unfortunately having a EMS and USAR background...it's pretty safe to assume those still missing will never be found alive. Tragic.

Looking for Multi-Use Radio for BOB/EDC Bag

Hello all, definitely hit a part of prepping that I am kinda unsure about and that is comms. I'm not looking for anything complicated or complex and I definitely don't need any super in depth explanations but I am definitely looking for an opinion. I was very ready to pull the trigger on one of thes...

Re: Night Security

So I have definitely given this some thought and determined like most of you were saying: I need to try to get out of whatever sleep 'cycle' or habit I am in. Going to be hard due to the fact that I still work EMS...but since spring/summer is coming I should be able to dump my midnight shifts for da...

Re: Night Security

Wow I didn't imagine this would take off so very quickly. Tomorrow morning I will try to address all of the comments posted. I am gonna start with this one though since I can clarify some of the problems I am having more in detail based on this post. I had this same exact problem for the same reason...

Multi Power Source USB Charger

A coworker of mine has a device he keeps in his EDC bag to charge his phone. It is a small 'pod' looking item measuring maybe 2"x2"x1" and is made of black plastic. It features a standard pull out US outlet plug, pull out 12V/cigarette plug, and terminals to attach a standard 9V battery to it. On on...

Night Security

This has been a concern I have had for some time and it has reached the point that I really want to know if others have this problem also, and what they have done to help correct it. When I was younger and would sleep, anything and everything would wake me up. The family pet barking or running, furn...

Re: Please... Help With my Kit... Please...

Update 02/2014 So good thing I got started early most of these smaller companies are running a 4-6+ week lead time. Kept the large ESAPI plates, went with a Crye skeletonized cummerbund in size small which is great. Added a BFG Micro Dump pouch on the support side and a HSGI M3T (Medical Taco) with...

Re: Please... Help With my Kit... Please...

Added: Just measured. From the bottom of the front of my PC I have 3.5'' to 4'' to where I would usually wear my belt. Maybe I have a long torso? Probably. Make sure your PC is adjusted so that your plates barely tough the top of your sternum. You likely also normally wear your belt low. I switched...

Re: Please... Help With my Kit... Please...

Different plates sounds like it will be the way to go. I was actually hoping you'd comment on this so I could get some info. I think last time I was sized for ACU's...I was a small/long or small/reg. Of course my snivel gear is all at least medium/regular and sticks out which I invariably get yelled...

Please... Help With my Kit... Please...

Okay. No offense, but I really need help from people that are A) Military/LEO, B) Competition Shooter, or C) Instructor. I don't want to know what type of a kit you have or intend to use I need legitimate answers from someone who has used one regularily and know what actually sucks and what doesn't....

Bumpity bump bump

I figured there would be something on here about this. Anyone know anything? Many many sources are talking about it and a few of my friends at DOE said that yes, there will be a drill.

So Night Vision

After doing some considerable searching, I haven't really been able to turn up too much about night vision equipment in the area of reviews and recommendations. I figured I'd make a new post about it. So first of all, I want to point out that I am trying to find a Generation 1 NV Monocular, preferab...

Re: What have you bought lately? (Bug Out Version)

Uhhhh let see. Found out one of the distributers for our gun shop carries 5.11, NAR, WISE FOODS  and Blackhawk so picked up a few more TacLite and Tactical pants, medical items, and a low pro plate carrier for work. Pair of Mechanix Gloves in coyote to replace my junk Oakley gloves,2 more pack...

Re: What do you do with Pelican Cases?

Hmm... The issue with these boxes is that they are really heavy. They are simply not designed to be carried in any sort of BoB but rather by vehicle. Is the pic you posted there the 1640s you got because it actually looks much more like my 1200 but with metal reinforcement at the padlock holes. Eit...

Re: What do you do with Pelican Cases?

Yeah I keep ending up with them. My latest is still in the box it was shipped in. I just don't know what 'electronics' to store in them because I am really tech light on the bug out plans. BOB has VHF and CB handheld in it, and BOL and my house have base stations already set up. Don't really need to...

What do you do with Pelican Cases?

After just brain melting for a solid 10 minutes with the capitalization of the title... I have said screw it this isn't a grammar forum and started on this post. Right o. So I had a post similar to this a while ago when I ended up with a pair of Pelican 1640 cases and couldn't determine what to do w...

Not sure if others think it will help with preparing, but I passed my FEMA Structural Collapse/Urban Search and Rescue Technician practical and written examinations. Had to have it for work on the racksque truck

Re: American Blackout

Watching a show on National Geographic just now and saw an advertisement for a show titled 'American Blackout' supposedly coming this month. Anyone else see it? I figure it has two options. A) Be a pretty interesting show/series. B) Be an absolute bucket of mega ultra fail in the true fashion of 'D...

Re: What have you bought lately? (Bug Out Version)

One of my most important preps. A gym membership. Now I can gain much needed muscle. Muscle = weight. Make sure you have the endurance to carry/use that muscle mass. A LOT of folks make that mistake. Good luck though! +1 - cardio, cardio, cardio. Agreed. Dat cardio ;P And to keep with the topic, I ...
