Re: AWOL

"Dad! Dad! Are you ok? Did it break the skin!?" Eddie is standing over his father, fraught with panic. "Fuck! Get!... Off!... ME!!!" That would be Jimmy, Eddie thinks to himself. At just that moment he snaps back to the seconds preceding the patient chomping on his dad's hand and remembers Jimmy goi...

Re: Making laundry detergent...

Looks like it's a desert tree, nice write-up here... http://www.fs.fed.us/database/feis/plants/tree/sapsapd/all.html It grows all throughout the Southeast as well. It could probably take even in Florida soil. Plus there is the Indian Soapberry, which is very much not a desert tree. Just food for th...

Re: Lights Out

I have been reading halffast's book for two days straight now. Thanks for that, ya jerks. :awesome: But Koppel's book is non-fiction. It goes through and shows the vulnerabilities and then talks to social psychologists, emergency workers, etc. about what can be expected in the event of a mass blacko...

Lights Out

So, I've recently learned of this new book "Lights Out" by Ted Koppel the newsman. It's gotten great reviews so far from the mass media, but I wonder what the squad thinks of it? For those of you unfamiliar, it is a decidedly non-fiction book. Mr. Koppel heard a rumor that America has no plan for a ...

Back again

Well gents (and ladies) it has been about two years since I logged in last, but I ran into another ZS'er on a flashlight forum I am a part of and it reminded me of what a great community we had/have here. So, I'm back! Hi.

Re: Rumor: Single-stack glock at SHOT 2013

I don't understand the hate towards the G36. Some say the hundredths of an inch are not that big of a deal... I'd agree with that, on paper. Get one in your hand, though, and the feel is drastically different than an other Glock. I've held and fired the large-frame 21sf, the G17, G19, and the baby g...

Re: Anyone Know of Cold Weather Clothing That Lasts?

Morino Wool Thermals. I ordered three sets to wear while flying in Kandahar during the winter of 2010, been wearing/washing them ever since. Still holding up, still warm as all get-out. They're not cheap, but they are so very worth it.

Re: How do you bug out your extra weapons and ammo?

The Chechen Rebels actually used .22lr hunting rifles in urban battles (especially in Grozny) with the russian very effectively. It actually got to the point where the Russian Army commisioned IZHMASH to create a .22lr sniper rifle, the SV-99. The Israelis also used silenced Ruger 10/22 in combat, ...

Re: How do you bug out your extra weapons and ammo?

This is all just fantasy, but if you're coming at it from a psuedo-realistic point of view, having a .22 isn't the way to go about it. Look at the cow-folk of the old west if you want a PAW setup that works. They toted heavy (~3 lb) revolvers in large calibers, and a heavy (~7-8 lb) lever action rif...

Re: How do you bug out your extra weapons and ammo?

As for the redundancy issue you state, that's kind of what I was going for, only having to carry a single ammo caliber (and you can get lots of different 22lr ammo types). I do have an old crap-tastic 9mm I don't even know the name or brand. Though thinking about it having a 22lr rifle and a 9mm pi...

Nice and truly practical for every-day scenarios. Get on that CCP and you'll be set up for most anything you'll encounter in an urban gotta-get-home situation.

Re: How do you bug out your extra weapons and ammo?

... the simple answer is don't take more than one rifle and one pistol. Period. There is a huge difference between gun collecting and "eotwawki preparation." Just because one's excuse for buying it was "this will be really awesome for my preps!" doesn't mean it actually will help in that situation. ...

That is weird... I've logged out and in several times now and nothing's changed. Such is my luck. OK, usual obvious stuff that comes around at this point: Did you dump your cache/cookies/etc? Can you try it on another computer/browser/internet device? No, I didn't dump anything. I've tried it on my...
