Re: Launching Them Into the World

You have likely already covered this in terms of basics, but some "I'm sick" hydration in the dorm room, literally, a 6-pack of gatorade and crackers. Our health center gives them out bc the grocery stores are all a hike from the dorms and them going out to the store when they're dog sick isn't good...

Re: Where can I buy Lidocaine online?

I'm afraid to ask, but why do you want a local injectable anesthetic? The only time I've ever seen it used was minor surgery and dental work. As a trained person it's pretty high on my list of things I want somebody to be able to make for me. As an injectable, it's useful for some reasonably mid-si...

Re: Are cleaning wipes safe for dishes?

It's been a week. I have survived, and felt no ill effects. I'm going to say that Seventh Generation cleaning wipes are safe to use on dishes and eating utensils, as long as you're not allergic or sensitive to anything in them. Thank you for doing this, Towanda! I'll probably use it on our next cam...

Re: Are cleaning wipes safe for dishes?

Since you're rinsing them afterwards I don't see why it'd be a problem. (And if it works please post, on short camping trips I don't want to deal with washing dishes but also don't like paper plates/bowls, this seems good...)

Re: Dehydrated food shelf life

Hey, I'm going to high jack this thread because we aren't supposed to start new threads if we don't have to: We are beginning to dehydrate and vaccum~bag seal foods. So what does it mean if the bag has air in it a couple of days after it was vacced and sealed? Bags didn't having holes, air came fro...

Re: Prepping activities with young children?

Have them pack their own GHB. Have help them pick out a season appropriate outfit, a travel game and a stuffed animal, help them make a boo-boo box to put in their GHB. Have them put everything into the backpack themselves. Make 'em pack their own bags/suitcases. The thought process isn't a ton dif...

Re: Getting stopped at border (please try to avoid politics)

I'm going to say this as politely as possible. These "wipe apps" are far from perfect and most are crap. Wipe your phone and hand it to me with the proper set of recovery tools and the whole phone is back to normal and I'm looking at your photos and accounts. You need to do several zero out process...

What is worse is that it appears to be spreading at the Hospitals. That is pretty messed up. You feel sick you go to the hospital and you come out with something worse? Actually there's a number of unpleasant things that spread best at hospitals. This appears to be one of them. Some things have tro...

My understanding is that for Android phones, it's encrypt-then-factory-reset if you really want the data as gone as possible. Factory reset only will leave data that can still be read by someone who knows what they're doing. Apparently encryption can take a while & should be done ahead of time with ...

Re: Where to start w/pressure cooker and dehydrator

Hello all! I recently came across an old National pressure cooker with the weight and pressure gauge intact at a thrift store ONE OF US! ONE OF US! Ok, so I LOVE pressure canning & am always happy to see folks get into it. I don't know that canner (& there's more than one kind on line) - is the wei...

Re: Adventures in rice, beans and bulk dry milk storage

So, you mentioned mylar. I think of mylar (plus o2 absorbers) as being for the long term storage, i.e. 20-30 years. Once I've hassled with putting it in mylar, frankly I'm not looking to rotate thru it for another 10-15 years. I'm just not aware of any fats that have anywhere near that shelf life. I...

We have the space for extra people.... I would just prefer folks with better planning/prep/skills. Honest question - what skills would have been useful, that they didn't have? Or are you thinking more long-term PAW situation? I'm just thinking this through myself. (I'm not in any way disagreeing wi...

You might want to get the kiddos involved. The lesson? Just because you pull a flush handle doesn't mean magic makes the waste go away - somewhere, someone will have to deal with this (the contents of the cassette) to ensure clean water and no disease for your community.... Also, if they have never...

That explains this morning's malfunction. I lost both mobile data and cellular voice comms. Total loss of signal around 9:00 Pacific time. The only other time I've seen that was a network overload during the ' 11 SW blackout. Infected mobile devices? Traced back to a Chinese chipset used in IoT (In...

duodecima Here's a few hints for a using a cassette potty. THANKYOU!!!! It arrived today (very quick shipping but then I did pay for expedited to make sure.) https://www.amazon.com/Cleanwaste-Go-Anywhere-Portable-Toilet/dp/B001TKGAKO I looked at that one, it's certainly very inexpensive. We sorta wanted something that felt more like a toilet for this application. (No, that's not necessarily logical.) I am glad to have the good review tho, it would work ...

Slavery would be illegal there Twiz. This seems to come up every so often. The rules state: 1.) No discussion of illegal activities as a viable option. Portable Camp Toilets

Long story short*, I need to buy one to use in our house next week. I have 5 gallon buckets, toilet seats, bags, cat litter, and it's not the apocalypse (yet :? ) so it's not an emergency, but we're willing to spend a little bit of money to make that week a little bit less inconvenient for the house...

Re: Tuberculosis in Idaho

AFAIK there aren't any TB test requirements for non-immigrant visitors (tourist, business, temp workers, students), which is like 98% of folks coming in. The refugees are screened abroad before coming (usually within 3 weeks before arrival), which is the TB risk classifications the article mentions....

More failed screenings. Please define what you mean when you say "failed screening"? People who were not properly tested for TB and other curable diseases. Most of the people seem to be from African nations so I'm making the assumption that they came in through standard immigration channels which w...

I'm posting it here in the measles thread, because as the article says, mumps is the other "M" in "MMR" and so a mumps outbreak could indicate a lack of measles vaccination too ... No. Well, probably not, there's a far more likely explanation. It's a combination of 3 factors : 1) Mumps is the least...
