Re: Kimber 1911 Warrior SOC Vs HK 45 Tactikewl

I have a couple kimbers i like them both very much. I have used HKs at work and used some buddies all were very nice. the down side to HK there customer service is just horrible. Horrible may not even cover how bad it is.

The Sig 227 looks like it would serve you well, my wife uses a 226 she is a lefty and does quite well dropping the mag with her index finger. I'm sure being a lefty you have mastered living in a right handed world by now.

Re: Multiple handgun vs. handgun/rifle for bug-out or SHTF

As several people have said it would be situation dependent. Your physical condition would play a factor as well. how much can you carry? I can move with a heavy ruck pretty well but after my ACL and MCL replacement I no longer run so a rifle would be coming with me for sure.

Re: Calling All Archers

I hunt with a compound bow. Its fairly hi tech, very fast 318 fps. I'm confident taking a shot on a deer out to 50 yards with it. That being said In a SHTF situation I would just use it for meat gathering missions in a bug in. If I had to bug out it would be suppressed rifles and handguns going with...

Re: Lets talk training for a minute!!

I have received some of the best training uncle sugar has to offer. Infantry, sniper, combat commo, combat life saver, and plenty of leadership schools. Over the course of 12 years I cant remember all the classes and schools. I zigged when I should have zagged and got wounded in afghanistan, I'm ret...

one of the biggest things that helped me was having a sense of humor. watching the lower enlisted entertain themselves was priceless. an American soldier Will find ways to entertain themselves no matter how silly. video games are great too if you have juice to run them. of course being a Rakkasan we...

daisy chaining your 550 cord will keep it from becoming a bird nest. a suggestion on the boots, I picked up a pair of asolo's and couldn't be happier with them. The military gear isn't bad just that kind of durability usually weighs a lot. nice use of the tree for a tp holder.

Re: how much ammo do you have?

the amount of ammo a person would go through in a year would depend on many factors, a big one being the amount of training someone has on the weapon system. remember fire power is fine accuracy is final.

Re: Survival "candy"?

during the invasion of Iraq in early 2003 my unit hooked up with a british unit for a couple days, we did some trading of MREs and what not. The Brits MREs come in a big ass 3 meals in 1 pouch with lots of candies, drinks, sugar packets and of course tea. The candy was very tasty as I remember, but th...

A tow strap wouldnt be a bad idea for vehicle recovery. 1st aid wise a sam splint and some duct tape are very versitile, Ive used it to make a neck collar after 1 of my troops rolled a humvee. worked like a charm.

the gorilla boxes work, there are some larger way better constructed boxes from several manufacturers in the supply chain, our supply clerk hooked us up with pelican cases and some large green tuff boxes.

Re: What have you bought lately? (Bug Out Version)

just recieved my kifaru koala in the mail yesterday and a bcusa 10x10 tarp in atacs fg. I'm digging the koala so far. It fits a glock 35 with an x300 attatched plus 2 15 round mags in the hidden compartment well but its about maximum capacity. plenty of room in other pockets though.

I took a spill wearing a 60# pack, took a good size thorn to the palm. That was day 1 of a 3 day camping trip. By the end of the third day the suck factor went way up. Now I wear gloves and pack a swiss army knife just to have tweezers handy.

Re: The Durability of Duracoat?

I've only dura coated ARs. I was very pleased it's been on one of my rifles for 3 years now and has had lots of use and a little abuse, still looks great. My only concern on your project would be around the muzzle. The intense heat from the blast may be more the it can take. Time will tell.
