Re: LONG term powered vehicle lifespan?

Anyone thought about what kind of a crazy surplus of military equipment we have in the USA? I have a buddy of mine who has a 60's era Studebaker Deuce and a Half with a multifuel engine in it. That thing has got multiple fuel filters and can really run off anything, even a low-gas-percentage mix. I ...

Re: Bug Out Vehicle Porn - pictures only please

So I went and kind of got something a little bigger. And louder. https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/yourphotos?pid=6140954554079431842&oid=100611300439882185135 It is a 1984 (still debating with the insurance company) AM General M925 5-ton Cargo Truck with ~41,000 Miles on it. It has a NHC-250 which...

Yeah, I want one of these campers and have talked to some people and looked at a few as well. So, really, if it turns out to be kind of fishy or you don't like it, you could literally drive it home, put a for sale sign on it, and double your money if not triple it. Seriously jelly of your find right...

Re: The Most Well-Traveled Vehicle

I read that entire thing and it is absolutely inspiring. Also, another reason why we shouldn't have all these gizmos and shit in cars now. I bought a 1984 MB 300D with sort of the same idea he had with his 1978 model. It uses a lot less electronics and it can take my and obviously 225000mi of other'...

Wow, I cannot be happier with the responses so far on this thread. Thank you all for so much information. I think I am going to be going with the Walmart processor because of availability and price. You all have given me some great ideas though on what to do for that stuff with the idea of TEOTWAWKI...

Re: Food Processors (Not Blenders) for Canning Prep.

Really so far it's mainly been muscadine jelly/preserves, tomato stuff, and some blueberry jam/jelly. However, I am wanting to expand upon that and start doing some tomato-based mixes like salsa and spaghetti sauce and some more varied stuff with fruit. Eventually, I want to work my way up to gettin...

Food Processors (Not Blenders) for Canning Prep.

So, upon making and canning some Tomato Stuff with my grandfather yesterday, I realized that if I could avoid slicing and dicing every single pepper into small bits with a knife, I could dramatically reduce the amount of effort that he and I both would have to put into our canning adventures. Now, f...

Re: Chainsaws and ethanol

Let me first say that I am the power equipment specialist at the local Lowe's and have been dealing with stuff like this all of my life, hence why I was recommended for the job. I bought a riding lawnmower three or four years ago - a Husqvarna with a Briggs & Stratton motor. It worked beautifully th...

Cutlery Corner Infomercial Knives

So, now that I am experiencing one of my occasional sleepless nights, I am watching the Cutlery Corner network whilst this guy who acts like he knows knives and popular trends tries to sell people on the few movie, tv, and game replica knives that come across the screen. However, one of the things t...

Re: Argument for small Mitsubishi car as a BOV

I personally drive a VW golf Mk2. Has all the advantages of the Mitsubishi but it's actually made out of metal and doesn't have 7 airbags and a to system disables the motor when inevitably I run down a herd of zombies. Oh and the VW is a classic... In a SHTF situation you still get points for style...

Saw this article on one of my blogs and thought it might be an interesting read and a different take on how we look at newer compacts.

LAPG is having an interesting deal here; if you buy binos or an optic you get free shipping and one of their Bail Out Bags in black. Not a bad deal for someone needing some binos and wanting an extra door prize.

Looks like you have a pretty great project on your hands! Have you thought about just leaving all the floors as concrete and either staining them or giving them an acid wash? I've seen people around here ripping up wood floors to expose the concrete and in my opinion the look is pretty awesome. It ...

YOU KILLED T-DAWG!?!?!? Awesome man. I wish I could be one of the zombies on TWD. You have/ have had some sweet setups though. How much did you end up paying for that van? The only one I've seen around here for sale anytime lately was up for $8000.

Re: The Dawgvan: 64 Dodge "Bug out Van"

Well, I personally want that era of MB diesel to turn into a biodiesel burning mobile. I don't know how easily it would work with the van body for the transmission and such to fit and also you would probably have to do some front suspension upgrades to be able to handle the extra weight of the extre...
