Re: When the police recommend you shelter in your basement, but you only have a crawlspace

One of my favorite childhood memories was working with my older brother and older cousins to make a punji trap in our grandmother's back yard. My Mom was horrified and immediately warned our grandmother where it was. I was the youngest one there, I have no idea what the psychopathic buffoons were th...

Re: Firearms Fails: The Wall of Shame

My greatest firearm moment of shame was around 1990, sometime after I got my first rifle. A friend and I went to a favorite shooting spot, which was a dead-end road in the hills on the outer edge of suburbia. We had gone there many times. Well. Um. Uh. It wasn't a dead-end, or at least some yokel in...

Re: When the police recommend you shelter in your basement, but you only have a crawlspace

Do you have a yard? Maybe you use this event as an opportunity for you and your family to practice building a Family Ground Observation Post: 1. Find a good spot (good visibility/fields of fire and drainage) 2. Dig a hole. 3. Surround it with sandbags 4. Overhead cover 5. Camouflage 6. If time permi...

Re: Guns for women chl holders

In the past ten years I have moved from a rabid Glock Hater to a enthusiastic Glock Fanboy. I have three and often wonder if I need just one more. My wife is the happy owner of a Gen3 Glock 19. She fell in love with it and demanded it. Having said that, I would suspect that there is a Glock out ther...

Re: Portland Violence

Truthfully, I'm astonished that there's a business in Portland that still had windows to smash. I cannot tell if you're being facetious (ironic). I passed through Portland to attend a memorial a few weeks ago. I saw no difference from the many times I have been there. I saw no flames, no smoke, no ...

Re: Recently arrived - SW-3B QRP HRf rig

For radio dummies... Could someone compare and contrast this with one of the Baofeng radios that all of the kids are buying these days?

The may be completely unrelated but I don't know what I don't know.

Thanks!

Thanks for all of your thoughtful responses. I have been living in my safely paranoid bubble and was startled to hear of so many failing to take this with much seriousness.

Seems a bit OT to me.
We're discussing CHOP and this EO is probably why it was shut down. Not OT at all.

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

I had kind of a troubling insight yesterday. Throughout the pandemic, my wife and I have been doing the majority of our shopping at Costco. We would only go every two or three weeks, we wore masks, shopped at quieter hours to help maintain 6 feet from others and we tried not to linger. We also picke...

Anyone heard of Executive Order 13933? I read about it here last night (Yes it is overly dramatic:) https://medium.com/@45thabsurdist/why-are-portland-protesters-being-taken-into-federal-custody-4a527a99f47f Some purported highlights: -This EO has motivated local and Federal law enforcement to becom...

Re: PSA AR-10 Handguard

I bought my AR-10 years ago before accessories were really a thing. It also has a 24 inch barrel -it looked like a halberd. The sad OEM handguard had issues: limited bipod mounts and (Only about 12 inches long) limited territory to grip it. My chief criteria was length and I ended up getting a 16" S...

Re: Alternatives to Dogs for Herding Livestock

My concern is with performance. Raccoons are certainly charming and resourceful critters but they are not the effortless runners that are required for a day of cattle herding. I suspect that the smallest and stoutest healer could easily travel a lot further and faster than a raccoon.

I was reminiscing over old games and a coworker told me that StarCraft, StarCraft: Broodwar and StarCraft II were all free to play. Re: Need help with Dual Purpose bikes.

If you're not going on a highway, riding all day or over 300 lbs, then a 250 should be fine. I've always owned 650s (A Kawasaki KLR0650 and a Suzuki DL650) but I got my training and passed the test on a Kawasaki 250. The 250 wasn't as cool but it was disproportionately lighter, it felt like it could...
