Re: COVID-19 Thread

The FBI is an excellent source when they base their reporting on UCR data. These tend to relaibly show trends "The FBI assesses hate crime incidents against Asian Americans likely will surge across the United States, due to the spread of coronavirus disease The difference between "will likely surge...

Bunch of Stuff. Like I said it doesn't show an increase in attacks. Maybe the internet social media stuff, but that is about as reliable as the rain and as trustworthy as a tabby cat; so who really knows? The SPLC is not a reliable source for anything either. They lost me back in 2009 when they sai...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

Please excuse my extreme ignorance, my background is industrial and hazmat not healthcare. Why is everybody using disposable N95-type masks rather than proper respirators? At least here in the UK, you wouldn't see asbestos strippers or chemical/nuclear workers in disposable masks for all the reason...

Threw this together because I was curious about the effects of the lockdown in Italy. Doesn't really seem to have done a whole heck of a lot yet... https://i.imgur.com/NcWbSgj.jpg To be fair, even with the people going out anyways, it will likely take at least 2-3 weeks to really see the effect of ...

Re: Covid-19 Leads to Surge of Guns & Ammo Sales

He said some Asian Americans are being targeted because of their race. Curious. Do you have any media accounts of this actually happening? A quick Google search for "Coronavirus racism" brings up multiple reports from multiple news outlets. Most of them seem to go back to one report on the subway o...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

Coronavirus's lifespan on surfaces, posted yesterday by NIH, not peer reviewed yet. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.03.09.20033217v1 The relevant bit: We found that viable virus could be detected in aerosols up to 3 hours post aerosolization, up to 4 hours on copper, up to 24 hours on c...

Re: The Poor Man’s Prepping

Lock the gate and stay home til it's over. Good hygiene and avoidance is the only way. If you have to go out at that point. You've failed in your preps. I'm not sure that's helpful. There are many things that can go wrong outside of your control. For example, look at the tornadoes in Tennessee rece...

https://i.ibb.co/Lk7PZrR/20200305-115440.jpg No. If you "cut to fit", you will lose protection. Don't Do It! It was just a random thought, but I'm curious as you seem to have a very strong opinion on this. How would it lose protection? I'm referring to substituting the n95 filter in the image with ...

Re: The Poor Man’s Prepping

What about UV disinfecting? Either by leaving it out in the sun or using disinfecting lamps? Also, what about making your own filters through something like HVAC filters (maybe with rating MERV 16 and up). For half face respirators there are adapters for simple n95 filter inserts. Can you use MERV16...

I don't have a Sam's or Costco membership (it's just me and my wife for now) so there's not a ton of bulk buying, but... these were posted on Sundays... when do these stores routinely restock? do they bring down all the boxes from the upper shelves on Monday and Friday? Much like we see in the medi...

[snip] Good post. Thank you. :) Thanks, MPMalloy. One of my neighbors posted pictures from our local Costco a few hours ago. The place is barren of all paper goods, just empty orange racks everywhere. There are no crowds in the pictures probably because there is no inventory left. What boggles me i...

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

I'm generally pretty decently prepped, but just for peace of mind, got a couple more things such as two more costco-sized packages of toilet paper, paper towels, chlorox wipes, etc. I already have a stock, but just adding some more. I'm justifying it to myself as not panic buying by noting that it's...

[Snip] This tweet from the Surgeon General I did find interesting. Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS! Re: Global Debt Time Bomb explodes soon

I think just the constant reports of one coming up will cause people to batten down and start putting money aside instead of spending. That itself can cause a recession. Spreading rumors X Length of Time = Self-fulfilling Prophecy. Basic math. I can't remember where I've seen thing before because I...

edit to add I was working in the former USSR (CIS) when the Ruble was de-valued. I saw first hand what happened to the vast majority of the residents when this happened. I hope to never see that here - not withstanding the horrible (real) inflation under the "Carter years"... That sounds very infor...

Re: Would we still have water & power if COVID-2019 comes to the U.S.?

In general, I tend to agree. My question would be how do the utilities differ between china and the US? I assume the chinese system has more leverage to compel utility workers to show up for work, but to what extent I really have no idea. I don't expect COVID-2019 to become a thing, but the broader...

Good evening, somebody at work shared an image from the website windy.com which purports to show sulfur dioxide, that is SO2, over China. Re: Firearms Chat: Yeet Cannon 2 Electric Boogaloo

So for gloves, I got the Mechanix Utility one because that's what I could find on short notice local to me, and it seems to have enough articulation in the trigger finger. I did some dryfire at home, but at the range it was just too much so eventually I just shucked it and stuck HotHands into my poc...

Re: Firearms Chat: Yeet Cannon 2 Electric Boogaloo

Anybody have any recommendations for shooting gloves? I have an outdoor 2 day pistol class this weekend and the temperature looks to be in the mid 40's as a high, with one of the mornings starting at 28°. Bleah. My local stores don't carry much if any, and the gloves they do have just seem so bulky....

Great vehicles. I assume since it's the full time 4wd that it's a V8? I've said it on here before, but if it's the V6, check the radiator/transmission class action suit that should have been a recall. 2005-2010 or 2011 models of frontier, Pathfinder, Xterra. Even when the USSR was breaking it we didn't see that level of crazy. There is no level of crazy that can't be passed nowadays. Example, yesterday in one of the buildings my wife works at, a k- 9 officer and his dog arrived to give a presentation. One of the women who works in that building ,watche...
