Re: Interest Check: Abandoned Army Base Trip

This sounds like a good trip and it's not too long of a drive for me, an hour at most, but my cousin is getting married on the 29th so I might have to make a solo trip.

I have a buddy in Boston who is part of an abandoned explorers group that would enjoy this trip.

Re: Your BOL will be more crowded than you think.

Most likely scenario (my opinion): Bug in until your preps run out/its too dangerous to stay (looters). Take what you can and get the hell out of dodge. Drive as far as you can, try to walk/move at night, get to your BOL (clear your BOL as there might be squatters), continue to survive. I agree tot...

Re: Stranger asking about my kids......

If he started the conversational off by immediately asking your kids age I would have immediately told him to get lost. Now if he walked up and introduced himself and said what he was doing there I may have entertained his conversation while I took a moment to calm down from the stupid car part I wa...

Re: What would your last straw be?

I'd say it would be a long process composed of several factors such as loosing those you care about, loneliness, constant heightened state of awareness, and god knows what else.

A halfway decent example is in I Am Legend where he talked to mannequins.

Re: Fruit trees and Bananas?

My parents property here in western NY has several apple and pear trees. Black walnuts are plentiful as well.

Re: Yahoo- Forever foods: 9 cooking staples that can outlast

I have a hard time calling most of that list "food" Not to say they aren't usefull. But salt, sugar, syrup, etc just don't seem to provide a whole lot of nutrition. I guess you could use all of those to flavor the rice  My thoughts exactly. I'd say the Rice and Honey were the best ones since y...

Re: Before and after Japan earthquake pics

It certainly has been a tragedy of epic proportion. There is only so much preparedness that could have been done for an event such as this but hopefully better knowledge and preventative techniques come from this.

Re: Stuck on I-90 in a snowstorm in Buffalo NY

I've actually been stuck in a snowstorm on I-90 between Buffalo and Syracuse with the interstate closed and stranded cars. So here is what I did. 1) Keep moving, slow at times, faster at other times. I rode close behind a tractor trailers and followed in their tracks as much as possible. 2) Don't g...

Very good point there. If that stench doesn't wake you up then the stench of the walking dead certainly won't awake you.

Re: New Guy from Western NY

You get pick up a Mosin M44 Carbine for around $100 at Gander Mountain. For another $80 or so you can pick up 300 rounds of 7.62x54r at Gander as well. The Mosin is a good rifle, I've been looking at picking one up too. How much did you get yours for? Right now all I have is an 8mm Mauser. http://ww...

New Guy from Western NY

Hello All, Names Jason. Used to hunt when I was younger but now I pretty much only target shoot. Currently I only have a Mosin but am looking to pick up an 870 and a 1911. I currently work for a company called Heritage Packaging in the Rochester, NY area and oversee our line of ZCORR Bags. I look fo...
