if SHTF then I'd probably tape my feet up to minimise the rubbing, also the lads in afghanistan have taken to spraying their feet with antiperspirant to minimise sweating and wearing stocking socks to minimise the rubbing. back as a soldier I litterally mummified my feet in surgical tape before doin...

you can as been proved here be fat and fit, calories will be in demand whatever disaster happens so a little spare fat wont hurt as agressive ops can double the amount you need to eat. the hard thing will be regulating your diet and supplies to match the excercise so if you're laid up for few days w...

this thread takes the basis that everyone will survive and head for the shops or there will be ample warning for people to stock up and empty the shelves. what if like the movies everything goes arse up big time and there are only one or two survivors per 10,000 head of population. everyone will hea...

ifr we are talking survivalism here then a turf roof may be all that you have at hand to give you a camoflaged retreat.

in greenland the vikings built with what was available, rocks and turf :)

failing that a traditional wriggly tin roof so you can tell when its raining.

1st degree simple fingertip stuff then you need to take away the heat and allow it to sort itself out - painwise it gets worse before it gets better as basically the nerves trip themselves out and die off. 2nd degree then the burn ointments work, butter or honey used to be used to keep the flesh moi...

I used to have many discussions with troops as to when and where to apply a tourniquet. My conclusion was to apply one when a bad wound was in evidence to minimise blood loss and aid clotting so I could dress the would properly and apply any ligatures/forceps if needed or close the wound up prior to...

good idea but its still a clear plactic bag and suceptable to algae and punctures.

I have a couple of packs of heavy duty rubble sacks and I can fill those and seal with clippits giving access to a couple of gallons of mobile potable water at a time which I can store just about anywhere.

the old style UK rat packs or US c rations were tinned goods with an estimated shelf life of 10 years minimum. The term best before springs to mind as the food deteriorates in flavour and nutricional values as the vitamins degrade. recently here a guy ate a 50 year old chicken in a can. and recent t...

They're used as emergency, pilot and naval rations The green ones last 24hrs, are a basic carbo/vitamin mix and need a lot of water similar to the american cookie bars but nowhere near as tasty. The red ones are for whe...
