Re: 8 Survival Myths That Will Definitely Make Things Worse (vid

there's lots more myths, like a ferrorod is better than a (quality) lighter. It aint, when you;'ve lost the use of one arm/hand, or when you dont have time or materials to make everything nice. You can drip a bit of fluid out of your Zippo and get a fire going under almost any conditions. :-) Like ...

Re: Hatchet vs. Machete--either, neither, or both?

Me I am in the neither/both category. By that I mean, I don't like hatchets or machete. Instead I am an axe and sword guy. A small axe I feel is much better that a hatchet. Hatchets are just too limited and you don't really save much in weight from a small axe to a a hatchet. The heads tend to be si...

Re: good video about fishing lures for all fish

Yep the paracord lure has been done a lot. There is a lot of videos on that topic. And yes it can work. I posted the video mainly due to it being a decent list of good all around lures. As mentioned saving space and weight is important for preppers. So a small batch of lures that work in most condit...

Re: What is Water Plan ?

I am living off grid on 40 acres now. I haven't gotten my well drilled yet and haul my potable water in. Last fall (Oct) I filled my 275 gallon water tank up. Today I still have between 1/3 and 1/4 of the tank left. But I am pretty good at making water stretch and not over using it. As well as I hav...

8 Survival Myths That Will Definitely Make Things Worse (vid

SciShow just did a great video explains: You might think you know how to survive if you end up stranded in the wild, but those tips you read on the internet might just make things worse! Some tips seem too good to be true, and they are. Others are ingrained enough to be common knowledge, except they...

Re: Halfapint's Getting Some Land

Hey congrats on getting to this point. A suggestion on RV/trailers look over on the East side of the Cascades and you can find them without rot. Then you can either build a structure over it it keep it dry or if you need more instant you can get an RV carport. I have a 36' RV carport over my trailer...

Re: Trailer Living; What to Know?

One trick I used last spring was dried wild camomile, a gallon pot full of these dried plants soaked up lots of moisture and freshened the air. If you build a porch, you might as well enclose it and make it an extra room. It will make life so much nicer to have another room. As mentioned by others ...

Re: Trailer Living; What to Know?

I didn't see anyone mention this yet. Watch out for condensation. Especially with propane burning (which creates more condensation as it burns). I actually found I could heat my trailer with oil lamps. 2 lamps for moderate weather, up to 4 for middle of winter in eastern WA. I was using #2 WT Kirkma...

Mine is a bit different priority it seems. But then I am a smoker. So the lighter and tobacco rank #1. Also I am light sensitive, so sunglasses rank high for me. I often still need them on grey overcast days as the diffused light can still be as bad as bright sun. Lighter/tobacco sunglasses BRKT Au...

I highly suggest Merrill for semi custom wood arrows http://www.dmerrill.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=5 The ones I got from him have out lasted and out performed my 3 Rivers wood arrows, for less cost. I have been recommending these wood arrows for years now, and they still are the lea...

The Scorpion 3 had it's 1st public flight demo at the MOTO GP championship, nothing too amazing in the video, just some slow forward flight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfsVjc7Dbo0 I really would like to see a video of one of these doing some turns, how it flies over uneven terrain, and other mor...

Re: Next meeting?

I have moved over to Eastern Wa, but I am still around.

I do think sadly a lot of the 005 communication has moved to Face Book. It was already like that though for the last year or two. At the camp outs there were plenty of folks who didn't even use the forum and only were FB members.

Hmm, so the radio seems to know when you were drinking or not. When I heard it at the 005 camp outs I was sober though. So It isn't just alcohol induced mis hearing. Odd that there is another similar message with gold instead of brown. I think the baofeng programers are messing with us and slipping ...

Re: Open Source Ecology / Civilization Starter Kit

So I have been sampling Marcin Jakubowski's youtube channel videos. Some interesting stuff there. Since the Ted talk was from 2011, I figured he would be a bit further along than he is. But he is making progress. Though a bit slowly, and seems to be making some pretty basic mistakes. Like building a...

Re: Canvas vs Synthetic Tent: Canvas Best For The PAW?

Building a sod house, or wikiup, or other primitive structures is a lot of work and uses a lot of local resources. In SHTF or PAW you might not be staying in one area for months, but also not just overnight camping either. A decent sized canvas tent can be a good middle ground between the fast and q...

Not solar powered, but I saw this on Facebook the other day https://www.waterseer.org/ I wonder how effective it could be in a high humidity area like Florida. As much as I hate to be that guy, the books is pretty darn good. I was always curious about the movie, but ended up reading the book before seeing the movie and was very confused when I finally saw it. I can't say I blame the movie makers, the book wouldn't translate all that well. Still, either ma...
