Re: Snugpak or Recon sleeping bags?

I am happy with the Recon 3. Don't think its quite rated to 23F like it says, but form, durability, compressibility are good.

From what I understand, there's no actual industry standard on sleeping bag rating, am I right here?

Never used the snugpak

Re: The Dead at Destitute Mountain

Now that's what I call an update! However so much for situational awareness on Michael' part. :( Coulda happened to anyone, or maybe your preps include vehicular engagements with molotov cocktails while riding on a Kawasaki? So, it sounds like these are the guys that killed Kat's group. That ...

I own black. It is fine, and does not attract attention when I travel. Tac OD or Coyote brown will show less dirt, that is the main advantage over black IMHO. I think coyote brown is the cooler color, IMO and I might get a bag in it if I needed to replace mine but I'm not suggesting brown to you sin...

Re: The Dead at Destitute Mountain

Yeah, IEDs and gunfire? That'll bring the dead. Nick's guys are about to get caught in an anvil attack with a minefield and a few crack shots on one end and a bunch of zeroes at the other.

Still, I think This is going to be a nail biter, just hope my favorite characters make it through.

I also carry two (three) hacksaw blades. One for cutting standard metal, on for cutting hardened steel or stone (made from tungsten carbide) and optional third one for cutting wood. . Are you using a standard sized hacksaw holder to put the blade in? I never figured out how you're supposed to use "...

Arsenul, this is a decent problem formulation, but I think a better analysis would require telling us: 1. Is this a temporary set-up (blizzard/derecho power outage) or long-term SHTF solution? 2. "Group of people" how many? 3. What tasks by voltage/wattage (is there satellite internet, playing music...

hand sanitizer, camp suds, and sand from river bank (if available). I don't pack one currently, but those neat little mini nylon pot scrubbies are good. Also, don't make a mess to begin with. Because we may "bug out" to a hotel if possible, I am packing some baby wipes and lysol disinfectant wipes f...

Maybe the best installment yet? I'm thinking "please let them do one mission without a KIA, please, please" Oh, and then Rain goes homicidal on her return. Harsh. The commentary on the futility of Catalina Island and other bugout plans is trenchant. Tinderbox seems to have quite an imagination, and ...

Come on, you knew it was going to be one of them. This isn't an episode of GI Joe.

Selfless effort and not resorting to deus ex machina to resolve the conflict. Good chapter.

I think if I had access to the resort I would have gone in a totally different route than abandoning it. While it would have been a dangerous chore to clear the resort of Zack, in the end it has so much more potential than they were going back to. I would make the resort as secure as possible first...

Impressed,

Not a general fan of this genre and came to the site just for the prepping info. But I had some time to kill tonight, saw this in the new post section, and read a couple chapters. Saving the rest for later.

Enjoying the story and writing on many levels. Good job,

Okay, I think I'm confusing them with hasta (which we also have). We didn't ditch the canna lillies (not that you asked). Very cool.

Dude, you just blew my mind. I have canna lillies on my property and I thought of them as weeds I disliked them so. In fact, I think my wife pulled some of them out a few weeks ago. I need to go and check if any are left.

Las Vegan, not a full review, but a few observations. 1. WRT the P38's intended use, On Zombie Squad, we do not "scrounge" 2. If you have MREs, you shouldn't need the stove. I didn't see anything else you'd cook in the stove. Also, see #1 3. You have a lot of tools (like the crescent wrench) that se...

So, I have a sump pump in the basement, but occasionally I get water seepage in one corner (may be a landscaping issue, Mrs. Qasim thinks its a faulty gutter, but I checked the gutters a few weeks ago. Additionally, there is an intermittent stream on another side of the house. If it gets high, it wi...

Many hardware type stores have them.
By the brevity of the response, I take it this is pretty much a commodity-type item and there are not big philosophical differences on features, brand, etc.
