Re: The Dead at Destitute Mountain

I've been checking in almost daily for the story update. I'm happy to see the long drought is over.

Nasty flu out there. Best be wary of any sudden compulsion to vomit all over the nearest person!

Spoiler Alert! Don't read this if you want the surprise in Jericho unspoiled. Okay? Right... "Designated Survivor", anyone? When I saw the reveal in Designated Survivor, the first thing I thought was Jericho Syndrome. It's the damned Jericho show all over again. Or Seven Days in May, or or or. In th...

Re: Jericho

I watched Jericho, all the episodes, when it first aired on TV. Ugh. Yeah they got me. What a sucker I was. I loved the (apparent) high concept of the show: what happens to a small isolated rural town in the midst of nuclear war? I loved that the town had no more idea of what was going in the larger...

Re: California Safe pistols Please suggest.

I have never owned an FMK, that said anyone I ask about them says they are unreliable. I have no eveidence for this it's just what I have heard The unreliability problems I have seen reported about the FMK boiled down to two different issues, defective "fast action trigger" (essentially copied from...

Re: California Safe pistols Please suggest.

First handgun? Consider choosing a handgun model that is particularly suitable for dry fire practice. Dry firing is a great way to drill on the cheap, for practicing basic skills like reloading, trigger control, sight alignment, drawing, etc. And dry firing drill can be extremely convenient too, sin...

Re: Weight of various rimfire cartridges, grams per cartridg

since you have one in handguns and one in longarms. Why not separate them between handgun calibers and file calibers? would be and interesting chart to have. How to categorize cartridges is not simple. Most rimfire cartridges can be used in handguns too. Likewise many centerfire pistol cartridges c...

Some 12 gauge shell measurements: Winchester #4 buckshot unplated (27 pellets) 2-3/4 inch shell = 48.4 grams (or 9 shells per pound) Winchester #1 buckshot (24 pellets) 3 inch shell = 70.6 grams (or 6 shells per pound) Remington 00 buckshot (9 pellets) 2-3/4 inch shell = 46.6 grams (or 10 shells per...

Re: Weight of various shotgun shells, in grams per cartridge

I would not recommend the 410 A 000 buckshot pellet from a .410 does identical damage at identical range to a 000 buckshot pellet fired from a 12 gauge. The same goes for #4 buckshot or any other size buckshot shared by the different shotgun gauges. The only difference in the gauges is the number o...

Re: Weight of various shotgun shells, in grams per cartridge

I would not recommend the 410 for anything other than small game or home defense for younger kids/new shooter adults. However, I love the damn cartridge. I have a S&W Governor. I have a single shot and a pump. Sure, the slugs will pack a punch...but for a cheaper cartridge, you can easily get more ...

My first guess is that it is useful for figuring the weight of ammo for a combat load-out, get home bag, inch bag etc.

I would prefer measurements in ounces....

How about rounds per pound?

Weight of various shotgun shells, in grams per cartridge

I'm starting with some various .410 buckshot loads. Others loads and other gauges will follow. Measured with digital kitchen scale. Federal #4 buckshot (9 pellets) 3 inch shell = 19.5 grams Winchester 000 buckshot (3 pellets) 2.5 inch shell = 19.8 grams Federal 000 buckshot (4 pellets) 2.5 inch shel...

Weight of various rimfire cartridges, grams per cartridge

As measured by my digital kitchen scale, ten cartridges measured at a time, result divided by 10 to derive average cartridge weight. .22 rimfire short: Winchester 29 grain lead bullet = 2.5 grams (or 182 rounds per pound) .22 rimfire long rifle: CCI Mini Mag 40 grain plated bullet = 3.4 grams (or 13...

Re: A Kel Tec Sub 2000 in 9mm

I like the .300 BLK cartridge. And I think it is hugely superior to the 5.56mm in short barreled applications. However, when comparing the .300 BLK pistol to the Sub-2000 9mm for your carry bag application keep some things in mind: .300 BLK ammunition is considerably heavier than 9mm ammunition, par...

Re: Measured Weight Per Cartridge Of Some Unique Types

Now if only Ruger or Blazer would produce an aluminum cased .45 ACP with a polycopper bullet, you would get a cartridge lighter than ordinary 9mm ball ammo!

For a reference point, an average cartridge of .223 Federal 55 grain FMJ bullet = 11.8 grams.

Measured Weight Per Cartridge Of Some Unique Types

Since I have a digital kitchen scale, I thought a comparison of some unusual types of ammunition would be of interest. Such as aluminum cased Blazer ammunition, or the Ruger ARX, compared to conventional brass cased ammo with similar bullets. The calibers measured were 9mm Luger, .45 ACP, and .44 Re...

Re: DA's Report on the San Bernardino Shootout Post Attack

Pretty close ranged firefight it would seem. But then that is nothing atypical from even ordinary military conflict, as the majority of infantry rifle shooting seems to be at less than 100 yards range.
