Re: Unexploded ordanance

On a similar vein. If you're in an area where there may be a risk of UXO, old military training areas, former conflict zones etc etc. DO NOT, in case you never got that DO FECKING NOT dig with a pick or any mechanical means. I've watched it happen, and had to call in the CASEVAC. It hurts really bad...

Re: Containment on CW

This started airing in the UK last night. What more can you ask for.

1. Uncontrollable Virus
2. Them evil people from the Middle East.
3. Bio-Terrorism
4. Claudia Black.

Had a thing for her since Farscape.

Re: Ebola UK

I'm thinking a Costco run is going to be a good idea soon. My bird flu rice has been used up, and I'm nearly out of bog roll. Not trusting the nuggets in government one iota, as soon as the first case is confirmed in the UK, I'll seriously consider limiting my social interaction a bit more, and not ...

Re: Inventories of war: soldiers' kit from 1066 to 2014

The respirator doesn't look right it looks like a US issue one rather than the "S10" The bar mine is not used as an AT mine, it's used as a mouse hole charge for assaulting compounds, saves making them up from wood and sticks of PE There isn't really any "desert" issue kit these days as it's all on...

Re: About entrenching and barriers.

The cross crossed tree obstacle is called an abatis, you need to tie the trees together with barbed wire to make it more effective. Another idea would be to dig holes across the road like Angelofwar mentioned, but use I beams as the obstacles. Have some postcrete type rapid set cement handy and noth...

Lest we forget.

May we pause from whatever we are doing firstly, today for the many services taking place around this great country to remember all the fallen of all wars, and secondly for only 2 minutes of your life at 11 am tomorrow.

Colin, a pleasure to read and recommend your work. Now just imagine if they got to the Hebrides and found a retired military engineer and a little band of survivors there to welcome them. Just saying :awesome:

I had a little sideways driving moment too, certainly focuses your mind. Thankfully I managed to keep my car on the hard black bit and avoided the green bits at the side. A few heartbeats were wasted though :awesome:
