Re: Pig Ebola virus Sends Shock Waves Through Global Food Chain

It slipped in unnoticed but the Chinese have cancelled all tariffs on pork and soy. This is a "good faith" gesture for negotiating with the US over tariffs and has nothing to do with their population starving this winter.

Flybynight brings up a good point. When our Walmart put in the storage pick up lockers they also added a parking curbside delivery area with express lanes and arrows pointing to it. People are not allowed to park in the special area unless they are having items delivered to them in the special park...

I don't think the panic will start for reals until August 2020. That is when all politicians will be checking the wind with a finger to come up with their latest and greatest views.

Re: Rising Tensions in the Persian Gulf

That is extremely bad news for the Saudis. My bet is they are feverishly plotting escalation or extraction. There won't be any middle ground. One well lit match and it could be game on between Iran and the Gulf States. There won't be any winners from that conflict and there will be plenty of losers.

Re: Questions about power inverters

A nice 100 amp+ alternator hookup from the car would be nice to have....all that is required is an appropriate set of jumper cables...and enough gas for an hour of run time every day. They are cheaper and easier to hook up than an extra solar panel....just sayin. True enough but we have to be caref...

There was an older video released around JW2, that displayed much more impressive speed and accuracy shooting targets. KR needs to be in a good ZPAW movie.

I must declare though it looks like Halle was putting that brace on her shoulder by design. Almost like she had a bit of forethought about it.

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Since 350 legend is basically a 9mm extra long, and 450 Bushmaster is a 45 extra long, we need to straight wall the 6.8 SPC case and make a 40/10mm extra long to keep the caliber wars going. That would be the .400 Purdey and the .401 Winchester Self-Loading. There is a reason why these things went ...

Re: Questions about power inverters

Did a little bit of interneting. On inverters the timing is often off due to the square wave form. It was suggested that an induction motor on the same load might slow the edges of the modified sine wave making it sync it more with the motor and therefore be more smooth. This would then smooth out t...

Re: Questions about power inverters

I used to have an old Jeep with the inline 6. The extra two cylinders did not add much horsepower but it did jump the torque way up. The Durango alternator is 160 amps which near double what your stock one provides so it seems near perfect for the task. There are a number of ways to hook up a second...

Re: Questions about power inverters

I'm trying to figure out what I could use it for in a bug out or getting home? That would be applicable. I guess if I welded I could run a small welder off of it or power tools? Can't really think of anything other than handheld devices that a small inverter would charge or run anyway. But I guess ...

I find that buying leather on Amazon is like going to a fast food place. It is cheap, doesn't last long, never looks as good as the ad picture and you end up with regrets.

I have a small inverter that I bought at Radio Shack maybe 20 years ago or more. I've used it to run a laptop. And that's about it. What is the major difference between an inverter that you plug into the cig lighter and one that is hardwired into the vehicle? Size mostly (wattage). The wiring runni...

The quality was very good, just questionable as to whether their 1911s were better than Kimber at the same price.

Re: Firearms Chat 6: Year of the 10mm

Pretty much all they sell these days are 1911 models. They are kind of like Kimber except with better brand recognition, higher prices and questionably better quality. They tend to make bad decisions like the 1903 reissue. Not sure who thought a $1200-1700 pocket pistol in 32 ACP was destined to be ...

At $700, their AR rifles are a good buy. At $1100+ they are not.

The only one dumb enough to pay that much money for a baseline off the shelf AR would be Uncle Sam.

The Spy

If you told me last month I would be praising the drama/ action acting and producing skill of Sasha Barron Cohen I would have laughed hysterically at the idea. While I have enjoyed his comedic humor at times (Ali G was just plain funny) I have not thought much of his other talents. The Spy tells the...
