Re: New S&W M&P .22LR pistol (NOT AR STYLE)

Fondled one two days ago. Felt like an M&P, balanced like an M&P (without a loaded mag), but oh my GOD that trigger was disgusting.

I handed it back to the salesman.

Re: Appleseeds, experiences and questions

I didn't come up with the phrase, but I assure you it is not meant to be insulting to anybody. There is an old saying that dates back hundreds of years, long before 1775. "An army marches on it's stomach" - essentially, no food, no army. I like to think that this is what the phrase on our shirts ref...

Re: Yugo m57 magazine disconnect issues

Maybe I'm either lucky or confused - I haven't seen a magazine disconnect in any M57 or other Tok to date. Mind taking a picture? I know mine will have occasional issues when one of the grips works loose, due to the rotation of the locking bar interfering with the trigger bar - problem can be solved...

Re: And so it begins - Saiga conversion

Yup - all holes for the trigger and pistol grip are already in place. Just covered up with a plate.

Thanks to hatchtrikk I now have a stock - partly. It's an ACE folder with an internal block that takes AR15 stocks.

Re: Rifle balance/weight issues

Strength is not mass.

Mass is extra weight to lug around to do the same activity. If it is at all possible for you, go for the increase in strength and do NOT go for an increase in mass. Some are so small that this is not an option - and they'll become average build :)

Re: And so it begins - Saiga conversion

I looked at a guide a little while ago, and compared it to an off-the-shelf AK. Didn't seem too hard. Other than that, I'm going blind.

I'm going to leave the holes from the linkage rivets. Not going to mess with trigger guard heat treatment.

Re: And so it begins - Saiga conversion

Just fired my unconverted Saiga 5.45 using surplus ammo. Rifle is a Legion Mercury-Herms. Serial number is H0988****L Keyholed 1/5 shots at 25 yards, 5/5 shots at 15 yards (extreme - almost 90* impacts), and 5/5 at 10 yards (mild keyholing). Said "well, this sucks" and proceeded to shoot the rest of...

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s127/jeep45238/734310811_photobucket_43513_.jpg Picked up the next hard to find part - the rifle. Took longer than I anticipated due to cut overtime at work, and then the rifle being not as easy to find as it used to be. Now it's time for a test fire, and getting ...

Re: Ammunition packing?

I put my .22LR in a .50 cal can. I'm buying Federal bulk, and I keep the remaining amount of Remington and American eagle in a zip lock bag in there to keep them separated (and shoot those first). Right now they're in the boxes, but next box that I buy I will have to break them down so I can keep fi...

Some photos from our recent known distance day in Kentucky (which included a lot of unknown distance shooting as well, along with team drills / spotter drills). It was nice to see 8 beautiful United States Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 on the line blasting away at one time and popping small balloons multip...

I think the tidbit in Dave's excellent article about tossing a rifle down range is included in:

Rifle balance/weight issues

At the last AS I instructed, there was a child that was having a few issues with a long, heavy bolt action .22LR. I understand run whatcha brung, and that the family was all attending for free and having a blast. The child was later put on a lightweight Marlin semi auto, and did much better. As a ha...
