Re: Weatherproof Wilderness First Response Kit - pelican style?

Hit up eBay or Craiglist for a used yellow or orange Pelican case. The 1500 or the 1550 should be plenty large enough. The color is to make it stand out from the ubiquitous black. Even brand new the quality and longevity makes the Pelican the best choice, they're virtually unbreakable. Check out the...

Ordered a new Henry...

But it's not a 22...

It's the hard to find lever action .410 shotgun.

Found one available thru a local dealer after emailing Henry looking for a stocking dealer and striking out.

Hoping it will be a fun varmint/garden protection gun for our eventual place in New Mexico.

Re: A story a failure regarding a chicken-killing dog

All that nonsense over 2 chickens? Even two chickens represents a substantial time/money investment. Besides it is two today then more tomorrow, and so on if you do not stop them they keep coming back and tearing up stuff that you have to repair and deal with. Well any of my time is worth more than...

Re: A story a failure regarding a chicken-killing dog

A dog killed a couple of my chickens today, and I failed in numerous ways trying to deal with it. I had just sat down to watch a video on my phone, when I hear a chicken squawk. I look out the window and there's a yellow dog chasing it. I jump up and grab my trusty single-shot shotgun that's near t...

Re: 10 days and counting...

Couple of quick updates. Went back out a few weeks ago, mended some barbed wire fences and looked into getting the new gate installed for the eventual driveway. Got a couple thousand feet of fence to install too...gonna buy the tools and try doing as much as we can by ourselves. Probably pay to have...

Re: 10 days and counting...

Not too much to report.

Met with a couple of guys to get the excavation estimates done, took care of a few eventual residency issues and just generally hung out.

The more I go the more I don't want to leave...

Re: 10 days and counting...

Back to New Mexico... Heading back out on Sunday, need to start getting some excavating work done along with our eventual residency and other legal stuff sorted out. Planning for a culvert along the road to keep some flooding and erosion problems in what will be our driveway from getting worse. Wond...

Re: Halfapint's Getting Some Land. Updated 08Nov

Well, I think the time line for EVERYTHING just advanced a LOT. Grandparents got back from Mexico last night and called me earlier and said they are going to be looking for a place soon, as in, start looking tomorrow. Honestly wasn't ready, there's a lot of stuff I wanted to do BEFORE, moving in. W...

Re: 10 days and counting...

And it's ours...

We closed on the 4th as planned, deed and survey have been recorded with the county and we even got a small refund of our escrow funds!

Back home now and making plans.

More to come...

Re: 10 days and counting...

We are here in New Mexico.

Did our final inspection of the property earlier today. Found the likely building spot and a few other places.

Met the sellers who were there taking care of some last minute details.

We close in less than 2 days...

Can't come fast enough for me.

Re: 10 days and counting...

I appreciate the supportive comments and interest. Couple of small glitches have popped up and been dealt with, the wire transfer for payment went out yesterday so barring a complete breakdown on the sellers part we'll be closing next week. Been getting organized for our "it's ours now" trip. Taking...

Re: 10 days and counting...

Plans so far are as described. Build a straw/adobe house with an off the grid solar setup, we're looking at the Tesla power wall as a possibility. Water is metered from a community water co-op. The terrain is pretty typical for Northern New Mexico, rolling hills, mostly scrub. We're thinking chicken...

10 days and counting...

We hope to be closing on our 54 acre parcel of land on Jan.4. Northern New Mexico, we have community water but will be off-grid solar and have a septic system for our other utilities. Our 2 year plan involves selling our place in SoCal and then building a straw/adobe house. Couple of corrals, a much...

You might look at a youth model Escort 20 gauge semi-auto. Gunbroker has em for 300 and change brand spanking new. Between the semi auto action and low recoil shells most anyone should be able to use it.

Re: Medical coverage experience

Thanks for posting.

Couple of questions.

What's your level of licensure?

Whereabouts is the camp located? Just in general terms.

Any environmental issues that determined your gear choices?

Patient count and what sort of treatments did you perform?

Thanks.

Re: Where to Buy Medical Products: The Definitive Thread

Found out a little more of their history, political beliefs, didn't jive with my own. The whole "everyone is entitled to everything" , cops are the bad guys, and openly supporting dissemination of the countries wealth without the workload, again a no no , and supporting trumps death, is a no go. So...

Alpaca Warehouse is offering 30% off from 11/27 thru 11/29/15. http://www.alpaca4less.com/ Code: BFALPACA I highly recommend their Military Banderita Blankets. I've used both with no appreciable differences between them in the final product.

My last batch is Fels-Naptha with some lavender essence for fragrance improvement, seems to be working fine so far.

The owner of Kaweah River forge made the unforgivable error of joining another bushcraft related forum called Blades and Bushlore. The owner of Bushcraftusa are intolerant of what they consider disloyalty or dissent amongst their minions.

I was just given a 120' freestanding commercial grade tower for the scrap price...$200. A little research shows that new this thing sells for ~$15K. I'm curious as to who you think you're going to reach out to? Assuming you can find a frequency that is both used by locals and one that you're able to transmit on, the range of an FT-60 line of sight is no more than a couple of miles at best. Who are you going to call for help that's gonna be that ...
