It is still hiding behind the counter here in California, but it is available about 90% of the time.

Re: Well, I guess I know why I can't find Leitner-Wise eSigh

I know a lot of people hate them, but magpul MBUS, their polymer back up sights, might work for you. They are light weight, and can take a surprising amount of abuse. And you could probably carve a bit more of the meat off of them with a file and sandpaper to get the weight down even more if it is t...

Re: surplus platform scout/deer rifle, gimme what ya got

.300 Savage has been used to salvage many a Bubba's project that has gone wrong. If a rifle has already been butchered, there is only so much you can do with it to save it from the scrap heap. And salvaging them is sometimes worth the effort.

Re: Ar SBR handguard suggestions

MI makes decent handguards. You could also look at Yankee Hill for a lower-priced version. I would also look at Primary Arms, as they have sales on both brands just about every Holiday weekend. You know, like that weekend sale for National Toasted Marshmallow Day and such. I will have to look when I...

Re: Mossberg 464 ZMB .30-30 Lever-Action Rifle

Holy Necroposting, Batman! This one was 3 years old... They are fugly guns. But back in the 2012 time-frame when they came out, tacti-cool was all the rage. And "zombie" anything was a marketing gimmick to try to sell everything from soap to machetes. Nobody liked these. However, I know a few people...

Re: surplus platform scout/deer rifle, gimme what ya got

Okay, a few things. First, sporterizing a rifle is the fastest way to spend $300 turning a $200 rifle into a $50 rifle. The math just doesn't add up anymore. From about the 1920s to the 1960s, production rifles were expensive, and Milsurps were cheap and plentiful. That is not the case now. You can ...

Re: Bersa .380?

I bought one for my wife long ago. She loves it. I hate it. Don't get me wrong, there is no problem with it. It is reliable and accurate. My issue is that the shape of the grip transfers all of the recoil to the webbing of my hand between my thumb and forefinger. The damned thing hurts to shoot. She...

Re: Israeli Mauser advice

FYI, M1909's were chambered for 7.65 Mauser, which was a 53 mm long case. It was necessary to set the barrel back to eliminate the extra length, since the NATO round is only 51 mm long. Some of them were done more professionally than others, but most only offered mediocre accuracy due to the oversi...

Re: Israeli Mauser advice

Most of the Israeli Mausers are beat to shit, with bulged barrels or other major problems. What is your particular reason for wanting one of these? Are you primarily looking for an Israeli rifle, or simply a 98 Mauser in .308? If you are looking for an Israeli rifle, then I can't really help you. If...

Re: Savage 1907... should I?

Yes, for Art Deco, you need long, straight lines, and a kind of aerodynamic flow when it comes to things other than buildings. The C-96 and many others have interesting designs, but don't quiet fall under the "Art Deco" label. ;)

Re: Savage 1907... should I?

I have always wanted one. Coolest pistol ever. How many Art Deco pistols are there? The Remington Model 51 comes in a close second for Art Deco styling. Although you could also make a case for the Browning 1910, or many of the Spanish handguns from that time period. The Model 400 comes to mind. But...

Just keep an eye on GB and you will see them pop up at low prices fairly regularly.

Damn you. I went and looked on Gunbroker, and ended up getting yet another pistol. It is all your fault. However, I managed to get a Model 1917 Savage in .380 for $275, which is about half of what it is worth, being a rarer model and caliber. I would keep an eye on Gunbroker if you can't get him dow...

Re: Thoughts on .458 Win Mag?

Alas, I live in California, so .50 BMG is out. However, reloading the .458 is no more expensive than reloading any other common magnum. There are tons of .458 bullets out there, and brass is still being made. If I wanted to go get store-bought monolithic solids, hand-crafted by virgins on moonless n...

Thoughts on .458 Win Mag?

For no apparent reason, I seem to have developed a hankering for a rifle in .458 Win Mag. Not because I plan on hunting in Africa. Nor am I expecting grabboids. But simply because having a cannon might be fun, and this would likely be the closest I can get without having to invest in a carriage to g...

Re: Savage 1907... should I?

Triple K makes magazines for these, I believe. I know they make the .380 version, which is significantly rarer, so they should make the .32 version. That being said, that is a bit high for the .32 ACP version, especially without a magazine. You can find them complete on Gunbroker all day long for $2...

Re: polymer lowers for ar pistol?

Think of most polymer lowers as being expendable. The Cav Arms version being the sole exception to that rule. The rest seem to be hit or miss. Some of them last a really long time for people. Others break if you look at them funny. On the other hand, they now sell molds that let you cast your own 10...

Re: ar15/ak47 pistol for shtf?

Excellent history on the Israeli version. I think too many get comparisons of the short barreled rifles or pistols wrong when comparing them to full sized carbines or rifles. I see these pseudo SBR/pistols more like the venerable M1 Carbine. These are a larger pistol replacement, not a carbine; how...

Re: ar15/ak47 pistol for shtf?

Barrel length, when it comes to 5.56 AR pistols, is one of those debates that is going to rage on for a long time. 10.5" is the MINIMUM you can go with if you want it to be anything more than a range toy. Less than that, and your regular 5.56/.223 bullets just don't perform correctly. However, if yo...

The papoose is still being made. And of all the takedown .22s I have seen, it is undoubtedly my favorite. Even Nut'n'fancy (retch, barf) likes it. I have picked up 3 of them over the years, though the older model with the wood stock and blued steel is my least favorite. It doesn't break down into th...

Beware the PSA prices. They normally don't include a BCG or CH. Sometimes they do, but I have found most of the time that they don't. What's to Beware of? If the BCG and CH isn't included, they print it in the item name. Anyway,.... last PSA email I looked at had a Nitride Freedom Kit for $409 and ...
