DIY Bug Spray for Mosquitoes and Ticks.Natural essential oil

DIY Bug Spray for Mosquitoes and Ticks. Natural essential oils. Warning. Check for any allergies first. Having contracted Lyme twice I needed to take additional steps for my hiking and preparedness. One problem is DEET and other bug sprays don't react well for me when applied to skin. Also sometimes...

Just a thought...

I like how it looks though...

Alcohol stove explosion.

I am working on a review for an alcohol stove. It had a small explosion for some unknown reason. The temps were in the upper 40's. 10 years ago had the same issue only a much bigger bang with a Trangia Military burner. That flash pushed the cloth material out the bottom gap and sprayed my face with ...

Keith Ti3200 220ml Titanium Cup

One of my favorite camping/bushcraft and bugging out cookware item is the venerable camp cup. If packed odds are it will be used. For longer range activites and to save weight I tend to pack a Ti cup. They're also good components for a Get Me Home bag or PSK as seen here in the Naglene Hobo Reel PSK...

Re: How to night hike and not die.

If you're going to hike at night, I highly recommend wearing eye protection. I almost lost an eye many years ago hiking at night. The person in front of me pulled a branch forward and let it go, and part of it hit me square in the eye. Of course this was on a field training exercise and we weren't ...

Sliding punk tinder bundle.

During a tomahawk review I also did firecraft skills practice. My intent was to combine several steps. Punk wood alone can act as both a coal extender and tinder bundle. However wanted to combine an accelerate into the mix plus a means to move it. Holding a handful of smoldering punk wood probably w...

Re: Titanium striker. Flint and steel (now Ti).

Wow, I never knew that you could make a striker out of titanium. How do you harden titanium anyway? And what hardness do you need for a titanium 'steel'??? I do not know how well it would work with the cattail fluff, but I have always had a LOT more success with putting the tinder on the stone and ...

Titanium striker. Flint and steel (now Ti).

Whenever using firecraft I tend to target the same things. Why? Because I really hate failure and lets be honest. The number 1 rule to firecraft is making and holding a fire. Failure is ok if something is learned but it is still failure. Hydrocarbons. This is the atomic bomb of firecraft. Yes I coul...

Bug Out Walk and Talk. Snow and Slush.

Seeing how today the last (maybe) of my snow and slush is melting better talk about this before summer. I am not a believer in the solo backpack survivalist. Man or women tosses on their pack then runs into the woods to escape the zombies, pandemic flu or whatever. It just seems like going from bad ...

Resurrection of rusty half-buried mud caked wet Bic lighter

Standard Firecraft disclaimer. I pack 3 modern reliable means to start a fire with tinder in a fire kit. This is how it was done back in the day IMHO. People packed a fire kit. They didn't walk into the woods naked and afraid looking to spin a coal out of the blue. Beyond packing a fire kit practic...

For this episode of Mora Firecraft I will be employing flint and steel methodologies. The premise will be using one piece of charred cloth and a tin to start multiple fires. My Pulk Sled System.

I know it's Spring but winter still has a hold on much of the USA. So figured before the warm weather moves in this is a good time to show my pulk sled system. A pulk sled is a load bearing sled used to more easily carry heavier loads over snow and ice. Often employed to re supply hunting cabins and...
