Re: Land or RV Solar

This to me seems like a classic win/win situation. Either route you are going to be better off than you are right now. On the one hand, land is a great choice. Land is the only thing we aren't making more of, which makes it a great investment. On the other hand, being off the grid will help you in e...

Re: You hurt your hand/arm... Now what?

I actually know this all too well. I broke my arm September of 08. I couldn't use my arm fully for 8 weeks. It took 6 weeks for the bone to heal and another 2 weeks for my muscle mass to come back enough to use my arm. It was amazing to me how much of a hinderance the loss of an arm was. You don't r...

Re: Mall Ninja Home Invasion?

What if you came home to find your back door and window ajar, and were confronted inside by a no-shit sword-wielding mall ninja? Never thought about it 'till I came across this in the new American Rifleman today... When Michael Lish returned home to find the back door and a window ajar, he entered ...

Re: solar power for about $600

Although solar is sexy right now, most people would benefit more from conservation first. Cutting your energy bill with efficient windows, doors, energy star appliances, lighting, adding insulation, etc. I built a small energy efficient home using standard materials and my energy usage is a tiny fr...

So far, the longest I've been camping is for 5 days. I have plans in the works to go for 7 days this summer. Hopefully that pans out.

Re: Attempted mugging - situational awareness

Perfect example of situational awareness. Good job. Reguardless of how it could of played out, I think you did the right thing. Someone tried to mug my Mom the other day. She was on her putting groceries in her trunk and someone tried to rip her purse out of her hands. All he managed to do was spin ...

This is even more important in the winter months. I keep trying to tell me wife that she drives like a maniac, it always ends with her getting angry. Nowadays I just offer to drive.

This has been something on my NEED list for quite a while. I gotta get a fire extinguisher or two. I feel stupid prepping for the worst case scenerio when I am not ready for a common kitchen fire.

A perfect example of why it is illegal to yell fire in a crowd. Crowds can turn crazy in a matter of seconds. +1 for situational awareness.

So, I have spent the last year in Washoe County Jail in Reno, NV infamous for it's low Hygeine and Health standards, and one of the worse things they subjected us to was, the swine flu  . They made everyone take tests for the flu, and took all positive (or so they thought) inmates and quarant...
