You're the only one that can know when it's time. Try to be objective.

Re: Robot Uprising - Or, what to do when AI Does All The Job

I feel like much of this conversation is losing sight of the bureaucracy factor. Not so much in the regulation of new technologies, but the unthinkably slow progression of change within large organizations and especially government. For instance, I know for a fact that my state government is curren...

Re: Anyone have a Sig p320 .45 subcompact?

Yeah, I'm thinking of buying the "compact" and then the subcompact frame. I hadn't checked in awhile, but .45 has come down a lot since the bad 'ol days. Which makes Phalanx happy :)

Anyone have a Sig p320 .45 subcompact?

http://files.harrispublications.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2015/01/sig-sauer-p320.jpg Does anyone have one? Even fired one would be great, I have seen zero reviews of this model. There are plenty of reviews of the 9mm version and I have fired baby .45's in the past, I'm just wondering what expe...

Re: Paris, France - Islamist Terror Attack on satirical maga

I am not a "trained operator" by any means but that entry did not look nearly as clean as others I have seen, especially with all the one handed firing from behind those shields. Do we have a clue as to who the guys doing the assault were? I don't think they had a lot of time to get organized. The ...

Re: Paris, France - Islamist Terror Attack on satirical maga

From the NY Times: Mr. Tirante, the police official, said Mr. Coulibaly’s first demand was for police to release the Kouachi brothers; after that happened, he said, he would release his hostages. “This shows that the these suspects know each other and are linked,” Mr. Tirante said. What a shit sandw...

<snip> I must say I have been impressed with the French reaction to the shooting from the public and the government. I would never have thought that the French had that much more backbone than the Spanish. It is almost like someone insulted Voltaire personally or something. <snip> Could you expand ...

Re: Paris, France - Islamist Terror Attack on satirical maga

Little information was immediately available about Mourad and Said Kouachi, but Cherif Kouachi has been suspected of involvement in terrorist groups for at least a decade. In January 2005, he and another French national were arrested in Paris as they were planning to fly to Iraq via Syria. Kouachi ...

Re: Paris, France - Islamist Terror Attack on satirical maga

It seems the Paris Prefecture of Police is an armed force. They carry Sig Pro's, but it seems like their police are a weird mish-mash of civilian and sworn, so who knows what the deceased officer's were armed with.

Re: mass shooting?

Is there anyway we can just call this what it is; "Islamic Terrorist Attack" vs "Mass shooting"? Mass shooting makes it sound like some kid who went off his meds as opposed to what it was: Retaliation and intimidation of non-Islamic people by Islamic Fundamentalists attempting to destroy and cower ...

Re: Paris, France - mass shooting

I was reading about this on Reddit, and a poster mentioned the presence of weapons being smuggled due to the Balkan conflicts. I thought that sounded a little fishy but after a little research I found out a bit about weapon smuggling in Europe. From the 2012 EU conference “Fight against illicit traf...

Re: My best prep purchase so far, chickens!

Ducks are also very good at keeping bugs down and are much better foragers than chickens, plus certain breeds like Khaki Campbells outperform chickens in egg production. I don't care much for the meat, though, but that's a personal preference and if I really needed to eat a few I would not be compla...

Re: German Sheperd watch dog problem.

OP, listen to Cherokee John. You have two big, aggressive dominant dogs that need discipline, structure, and a chain of command. It is imperative that you provide it for them, plus get them fixed. Randy dogs aren't good for anybody.

Re: My best prep purchase so far, chickens!

Just bought a house with some land that will finally allow me to get some chickens. Plan on starting with a couple and see how it goes. Luckily I have a good network down here that I can draw from. In my experience 3 or 4 chickens is pretty much the same amount of work as 5 or 6 chickens; it all de...

Hey man, whatever makes you happy! I've never seriously considered what it would take for me and my family to be completely isolated, but the only feasible time we could do something like that is probably decades down the line. I live ten minutes from my parents and my wife's parents, who are both a...

Re: What's the minimum dollar amount you need to be 100% sel

I would never say no to any money, but as far as getting off the hamster wheel, 300k is chump change. You need 3 - 5 million for that. Four years ago my brother picked up 40 acres and a small house for 50k he invested another 20k into improvements. He now lives 90% off what he grows and raises. He ...

Re: What's the minimum dollar amount you need to be 100% sel

Without getting into the philosophy of what "self-sufficiency" means, for baseline costs of regular living here in Oregon, my small family of 3 can get by with $2700 a month. This includes utilities (no cable TV), mortgage, food, insurance, gas, phones, and whatnot. I have no idea how this compares ...
